I read an article from Dave Peltz and in it he suggested many golfers would benefit by reversing your putting grip for putts within 10 to 12 feet or less. I figured I'd give a try......AMAZING!!! I thought it would take a while to get the "feel" of this, but on the practice green before a round I had it down in 10 minutes. His reasoning is that it keeps the "triangle" more true and it is harder to "push" or "pull" a putt this way. For me it worked like a dream! Anything longer than 12 feet I still use my regular grip, but his "Left-Hand-Low" Putting Grip has definately made me a believer after just two rounds!!!

Didnt try that Putting grip, but it sounds funny.

I found out that a 12 feet or less Putt can easily be done with the stance fully open, your body completly targeting to the hole and the ball is lying 5 inches away from your right foot. The longer the putt gets the more the ball will go to the left because you cant swing on a perfect line but the aiming on the short ones is much easier for me.

There is a variation of the left hand low style that I have been using for 7+ years, and it has worked wonderfully for me. A few years ago I noticed Vijay Singh using it on the tour during his win at the Masters. In my second round using it I shot 64 and had 22 putts.

Here's how to do it:
Place your right hand on the top of the grip, like in the normal left hand low grip. Now extend your right index finger down the right side of the shaft. Take your left hand and wrap it around your right index finger and around the grip like normal. Both thumbs should be pointing down the shaft like normal. If it hurts because your finger is not flexible enough, you can move your right index finger slightly under the grip more. Your left hand will "lock" the right hand in place and prevent your wrists from hinging during the stroke.

This grip should feel very solid and stable, and really helps eliminate wrist motion and enables both hands to work together. It's very hard for one hand to take over the other during the stroke, and it has helped me become a much more consistent putter. Try it!

I use left hand low. Works just a little better for me then standard. Switched after an elderly gentlemen demonstrated how accurate left-arm-only putting can be. The right hand goes along for the ride as a guide, yielding both touch and accuracy, w/o domination concerns. Also, warmup times are next to nothing. My first warmup putts often drop!! If you need a long warmup or lose touch between holes, try it for a couple days and you might like it! Good luck!!

I've been using left hand low for many years now, stopped me from pushing and pulling putts. All my putting is left hand low. If your putting fine with the regular grip you'll see no benefit changing until you start pushing and pulling those par and birdie putts from ten feet and less.

    • Day 65 - 2026-02-25 Still in cold and cough recovery but got outside for about 10 minutes at the net. Good to be out moving but diminishing returns on value as I'm lacking real feedback. Energy should return tomorrow.
    • Day 38 (25 Feb 26) - Played in the midweek shootout,  great day of dealing with the elements with solid winds from the south (riding them going out, fighting them coming in - 2club hurt fight).  Not a day to be shy about clubbing up and having confidence on slippery greens.
    • Day 194 2-25 Worked more on wrist arch through downswing. Slow swings/half swings. Looking better but stil a ways to go. Foam ball and recorded.
    • This is one of those experiential things that it's virtually impossible to imagine how it is for people on the other side of the spectrum. I can close my eyes and see pictures in my head that are just about as detailed as when my eyes are open although I can only focus on bits of it at a time. So if I look at a picture and focus on something in the middle and that only, when I close my eyes I can see that thing I was focused on but everything else is blurred and more so than when my eyes are open.  Out of curiosity - when you watch this do you see the distorted faces?
    • I like this discussion and I don't see it happening often. I think of commitment as strategy and discipline as tactics. Commitment is the decision—the what and why. You commit to a process, a practice philosophy, a way of approaching the game. Discipline is the how, repeatedly. It's doing the work when motivation fades—sticking with your routine on the 14th hole after three bad swings in a row. Commitment without discipline is just a good intention. Discipline without commitment is just going through motions. As was clearly pointed out, conscientiousness might be what makes discipline easier for some people ("spectrum"), but it's a trait, not a choice. Commitment and discipline are both choices—and that's what makes them actionable on the course. The thought expressed in the thread, "You should act the way you want to see yourself for be" is spot on, and applies beyond golf. Commitment + Discipline = Progress.
