I have a chance to play TPC Jasna Polana and was wondering if anyone out there in the sand trap world had ever played there, what im' in for, etc....opinions/thoughts/experiences welcomed...

In my Titleist 2014 9.5" Staff bag:

Cobra Bio+ 9* Matrix White Tie X  - Taylormade SLDR 15* ATTAS 80X - Titleist 910H 19* ATTAS 100X - Taylormade '13 TP MC 4-PW PX 6.5 - Vokey TVD M 50* DG TI X100 - Vokey SM4 55 / Vokey SM5 60* DG TI S400 - Piretti Potenza II 365g

I played it several years ago, admittedly not well.  It is a beautiful facility, with the full complement of staff and amenities.  I recall it not being very long, but somewhat tight in places and somewhat unforgiving for wayward drives.  There are a lot of trees, most holes are pretty 'tucked' in their own area, so to speak; if you miss a fairway by a ton, you're not on another hole, you're deep in the trees.  I also recall a very varied layout, a lot of different lengths and shapes to the holes.  I don't have a strong recollection of the greens, which probably means they were very good, not lightning, but well kept (I would remember if they were bumpy or like glass, e.g.).

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

from the tips it plays to 7,100 or so which is pretty stout in my book...from pictures it looks beautiful and challenging but it's only rated a slope of 139 which isn't too terribly tough considering. btw, what actually IS your handicap?

I'm an 8.  See my thread on Disperson Statistics to see what the previous label was getting into. ;-)

**Update** played TPC Jasna Polana yesterday for the first time with another fellow 25 year old by the name of Adam Kucharski and the marketing director at Jasna by the name of Peter Angerame...great people. Gary Player's design of the course is just wonderful, with no two holes looking anything alike. Greens were rolling at a 10.5 and smooth as could be, even at a noon tee time.  Top-notch all the way around. I met everyone from the pro's, assistant pro's, executive chef, public relations coordinator, etc. and every person was knowledgeable and a joy to talk to. The course is set on a nice piece of land that has the largest 2-bedroom mansion in the world that was once owned by the Johnson & Johnson estate. The course has no houses lining any of the fairways except for buildings that were a part of the estate that still have facilities for business meetings, gatherings and club sponsored events. All in all i'd have to say one of the top 10 courses i've ever played on.  When i get the chance i'll post the few pictures that i have of the course on here. Tremendous experience and if anyone would like to know more or want to get on sometime, please let me know.

I worked there for a year back around 2002, absolutely loved the facility. The mansion is phenomenal, the practice facility is great, it's got all the polished pieces of an uber high end club. My favorite part was the drive into the club, through the woods, gorgeous. I found the course itself to be perfectly manicured, but the design itself had some lulls. The first few holes were very dramatic, but there are a few par 4s up by the road that just zig zag and bog down the round a bit. Overall, the standout holes outweigh that lull and it's certainly a fun track.

    • The one the guy I saw had looked like this:  At least pretty close.  It was ginormous. Which is great if you want to carry your lunch, a change of clothes, several boxes of balls, a telescope, and maybe your first born with you. But otherwise it seemed a bit impractical.  The leather was really nice though. It looked and felt expensive.  I love this bit from CaddyShack. With Rodney's giant Staff Bag.
    • Addendum, mix up on staff versus stand bag. 🤣 Never mind.
    • Photo? ...   Also Photo? ...
    • Okay, I got it in three but it took me a long time to figure out how to put the four letters I had after two guesses into the right order.  I was starting to wonder if it was a non-English word. 🤣 Wordle 1,448 3/6 ⬜⬜🟩⬜⬜ 🟨⬜🟩🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
    • I think "different" is the wrong word. I would suggest that the conclusion would be less in depth. It might also be more difficult to explain exactly what the coach wants you to do without the GEARS system. I've been coached on GEARS a number of times. What I can tell you almost certainly is that we get to root cause a lot quicker.  Often I can fix the part I'm working on and it will come at the expense of another part that I had already had correctly or previously corrected. The instructor can rotate the model and show you "Oh look this is better, but now it's caused this." When that happens we look for another feel. One that helps me get the part I'm working on correct, but doesn't mess up another part, or perhaps even helps improve another part.  Sometimes we find a feel that improves a few things all at once. Then that's like a Eureka moment.  So, while GEARS is very technical it's still a matter of finding the right "feels". Erik will say try feeling like you are doing this. Then we can look very deeply at a few of the components we are working on and decide if that feel is the right one. If not, we may try a different "feel".  This It's great when we go back an look at older GEARS data and get to say last year you were doing this by this much. Now you are doing this by this much. YAY! Improvement!  If time and money were no object I'd get a lot more coaching on GEARS. Unfortunately, I don't think it's likely that I can ever make a living playing golf. (Shut up. @billchao I can hear you snickering.) So I have to sneak my GEARS sessions in between earning a living, raising a family, keeping my wife happy, caring for my mother and/or my in-laws, my kids activities, etc...  I'm not sure it's revolutionary... maybe evolutionary. But I can tell you this; I've never had a GEARS lesson that I thought was a waste of time or money or thought it would have been as good or better without GEARS.  Not to say you can't have a good lesson without GEARS or there's no value in filming your swing. Those things are still valuable. GEARS is just better though. Having done quite a few lessons both ways for a while now. The only arguments I can think of against using GEARS are mostly centered around time and money.  Don't use GEARS if: You can't afford it You don't have time. Sometimes you are just after a quick spot check.... that's cool.  You don't have somebody who knows what they are doing to show you how to turn that data into ways to improve.  You want to take longer to improve You are worried about tearing the Velcro strap that holds the shoe covers on.  Otherwise use GEARS if you can.
