What are the potential problems with installing a pulled Rifle 5.0 9i shaft into a PW (.355 taper tip)?

What about tip trimming a quarter inch, or a half inch, will the shaft still work/fit the hosel? I know these shafts are not to be tip trimmed, but I don't know why; will it not fit, or just not be the correct stiffness, etc.

I am going to put a new, longer, shaft into my 9i, but don't want to waste the pulled shaft.

Thanks.

Just pulling the shaft and swapping it shouldn't cause any physical fit problems other than length, but I imagine that it would make the flex change.

The tapered tip shaft is a smaller diameter at the very end of the shaft, then gradually gets larger as it goes up, so cutting a 1/4" or 1/2" off would make the tip end larger than it was originally.  The end result would be that the tip of the shaft would not fully seat into the hosel.  The likely result would be that the shaft breaks.
