Picked it up this afternoon, played 9 holes, and LOVE it!!!

Two observations I would like to share.......

1. All the talk about how "strange" it looks goes right out the window by the time you hit your first bucket of balls. After 15 minutes it's a non-issue.

2. The ball flight is definately higher. I was playing a Taylormade R7 460, regular shaft, 10.5 degree. I got the same trajectory (maybe just a hair lower) with the SQ 9.5 so thats the one I bought...and glad I did!!!

oh, there is one more thing.....this baby is LOUD !!!!

Glad you love it, if you don't love your driver it's tough to get out on the course!

But, love it while you can, how long will the honeymoon last?
There is a reason why companies can sell us a new driver almost every year, but I will try and demo one.

Well, I played a full 18 today and still love it! Weather was 81* degrees and no wind so I really got a good "test-day" in. I'll say this much, the square head is REALLY easy to align with any target down the fairway! On my home course I hit all but 1 fairway, and that was a par 5 that I really tried to hammer it. My drives averaged 10 to 15 yards longer than with my R7 460, but MOST impressive was the accuracy of SUMO.

I went from a 10.5* to a 9.5*, and the only change I'm going to make is to drop it off tomorrow and have a Aldila NVS 65R shaft put on, mainly just because I've always loved the feel of this shaft.

I also have a r7 460 and don't seem to get good distances out of it .

After trying the Sumo2 I will switch. If I can put a duck hook swing on the ball

yet have it end up in the center of the fairway, there is no way I can deny

that technology advantage. It also comes with a Vs proto by Aldila

at no extra cost .

Just out of curiosity, if you hit all but one fairway why would you change the shaft? I'd go back to my stock shaft if I could get that kind of performance.

The reason for the shaft change is just personal preference, more "mental" than anything else.....that MUST be it..."mental".....spending a $100 bucks that I really don't need to.....just proves I'm a "mental case"!!!

Picked mine up on Saturday and played 9 with it yesterday. It is really easy to hit. It's loud but that's not a big deal. I had a Zevo Driver once that was just as loud. The square head minimizes the draws and fades but I did come over the top twice and blocked it once in nine holes and missed the fairways. So while its not utopia I'm sure it will help. The square head is really easy to get use to. So far I'm happy and it's only February.

What I REALLY like about the square head is that it is SO easy to aim! Beacause of the square head you align it towards a target in the fairway just like you would a putter!

Yesterday the course was really empty....something 'bout a football game or something? ....so when I got to the 16th hole I hit 6 balls of the tee. It's a wide open par 5 so I experimented and picked different targets down the fairway to practice my alignment. With the exception of one really BAD swing that was my fault, the other 5 balls went where I aimed! No draws of fades, just straight as an arrow. It was just like throwing DARTS down the faiway! Imagine, not just hitting the fairway, but hitting a certain SPOT on the fairway to set up your next shot!!!

Hey, maybe they will come out with a square WEDGE....it would do wonders for my short game!!!

    • Day 622 - 2026-06-16 Played 16 holes. We skipped 10 and 11. Backswing is good. Most of the time.
    • Day 287 6-16 Full, fast swings with controlling low point. Did ok just wasnt feeling it tonight. Recorded swing, no ball.
    • I'm good with the bunkers, and the fairways are SUPER wide. Three yards should stop a ball that isn't landing in it from rolling into the hay.
    • I'm a little behind, but I just finished listening to the episode about practicing while on vacation.  I have two vacations coming up this month that I won't be bringing golf clubs with me on, and this was perfectly timed (I'm sure I am not the only one going on vacation in June).   Especially the part about stretching.  I keep putting off adding stretching, with golf in mind, to my daily routine.  I think I'm going to use these upcoming vacations, the first of which I'm flying off to on Thursday, as a way to get into this habit.   For anyone else interested, Fit For Golf (see sidebar) has fantastic stretching routines (some of which, I think, are on their free area).  I really should get back to doing their main exercises too.  I don't have any affiliation with them beyond "satisfied customer," in case that sounds like an ad. I may end up posting in the 5 minutes thread when I do golf stretches if it's my only practice that day... as if I don't already sound like a broken mp3 with my 10-15 minutes hitting indoors part. And back to the topic:  anyone not caught up on the podcast should consider catching up and listen to that episode, especially if you're going on a non-golf vacation this summer and want some practice ideas that aren't the at-home practice routine from LSW about long bunker shots (which I am sure we all do regularly).
    • Mostly pull cuts to slices. Some random pull draw/hooks pending of I hit the toe.
