I have two problems. With my driver I have the ball position lined up with my front foot heel, and aim a bit before the ball so that my club is in alignment with the middle of my stance, the ball being forward. I've changed up my tee height quite a couple of times but I'm still hitting too low on the tee. I either pop the ball right up, or just make terrible contact and slice it. Like I said, I've switched up the tee height numerous times, so I'm figuring I'm dropping my shoulder or something causing me to hit the ball on my downswing. I also might be using too much of my arms. Tips?

Edit:: Today I went back to a course and used my driver. Through the front 9 I was struggling a lot to make clean contact, than I started using more of a shoulder turn and I was making very good contact with my shots. The only problem was consistency as I would slice about 50% of my tee shots. Some slices weren't that bad and some were pretty much out of play. Anybody have any quick tips to help slicing with a driver?

Without seeing your swing it sounds like you should use more shoulder rotation and less "arms".

But again, that is just a wild guess. Post a video and you will get better responses.

The eyes have it!..

The driver must make contact with the ball on the upswing. Try setting up on the ball with the ball farther forward. If the ball is too far forward you will start hitting it left. When that happens, slowly move it back till you find the sweet spot. When I am hitting the driver right, I need to have about a third of the ball above the face of the driver.

As far as your long irons, again, move the ball forward in your stance. Dont try to hit it so much on the downstroke. Yes the flight will be higher, yes you wont get as much backspin, yes the ball wont go quite as far, but all of that will come with time.

I have found for me, that 90% of the time, when I hit a bad shot, its because my eyes left the ball at the last possible millisecond before contact. I also found that when I am hitting consistently fat, if I look in front of the ball instead of directly at it, it helps. By the same token, if I am topping balls, I look behind the ball. The smallest (ball width) change in your eyes will make a difference.

The other big thing for me is breathing. If you are clear full of air versus completely empty of air, it changes your body position immensely. I dont think it matters if you are full or empty, but you have to be the same every time you swing to ever expect to get the same result. I personally exhale just before my backswing. This way my body is exactly the same when I start my swing.

Of course all of this is just my opinion and may or may not help you. But I have found these things were beneficial for me.

Good luck!

One more thing! If you believe your going to top the ball, you will. If you believe your going to knock the white off it, you will....Golf in my opinion is 10-20% mechanical....The rest is mental......Picture the shot, believe the picture........

Picture the shot.....Believe the picture....

Yeah actually my friend was talking to me about that today and I also have a few questions about this. First off, how should the hips be during the shoulder turn motion. For example do I keep my hips locked, do I turn them, slide them, etc?

Also, my left arm should be pretty straight with the shoulder rotation right? Thanks for the advice guys!

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
