588 vs CG10

Much difference, no difference, little difference? What about durability? Just added a couple CG10 Black Pearl wedges to replace 588 Gunmetals. Have heard the CG10's have serious durability issues. Haven't hit them yet... still a little too cold

Yeah, they have excellant durability! i have played them for almost close to 2 years now, and they wont be leaving the bag for a while. I have not tried the gunmetal, but im sure they are an excellant wedge too...but just not as good haha

The CG10's are an excellent wedge?

I still do have my 588's and they are a great wedge and I keep hearing the CG10's wear out quickly. Don't think I have the funds to buy new wedges every year. Just was curious to everyone's thoughts on these.

I have a CG10 Black Pearl 54 and it is very nice but have yet to wear out any of the grooves. Maybe because I keep hitting it on the toe!

On the other hand I have a Cleveland Reg. 485 60*which has the same compound as the gunmetal (I think). Its completely rusted out and looks terrible but the ball checks and dances when I hit it right. I hope it never wears out!!

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that. Actually, I don't know the answer to that. That's what I'm trying to find out. I had just heard/read that from some people.

I played my first round today (9 holes) for the year and with the CG10's and the biggest difference I noticed was the weight. CG10's felt heavier, I think I might like that on the chips and sand shots. Feel wasn't as "soft" as the 588 and a little hard (lack of a better word) but then again I haven't played in 4 months so I think the operator may have had something to do with that.

They feel heavy because they are a D6 swingweight. I like it, but I always take a couple of extra practice swings just to get the feel for them. My other irons are all D1, so the Cleveland wedge (mine is a CG11, but the same swingweight as yours) feels a ton heavier.... but I've never hit a better club out of a greenside bunker.

I only had one greenside bunker shot and blasted it to within 5 feet (yes, I missed the putt). Felt great out of the bunker though and on short chips. On the longer shots I think I'll just have to practice with it and get used to the extra weight. I'm keeping my 588 SW though just in case I need to go back to it.

IMO they offer more feel than the original 588 (can't comment on the recent new version). I have played my 56 degree CG10 for 2 full seasons, and it has worn just as well as the 588's. I tend to replace my 56 most often, as it get the most use.

Thanks for the post. I'm going to give the CG10's a go this year. My 588's have been very trusty over the years though. I usually don't like to change to something new just for the sake of getting something new. It has to perform better but I think the CG10 will.

Hey, I've considered upgrading my irons but do like the TA5 Gunmetal. You guys think iron technology has changed much since then?
