It's a metal polish that leaves a protective coat, I have used it for years. Today I bought a used mild steel gun blued putter with rust in the back cavity. As expected Wenol removed the rust. The protective coat builds with each application. I have a few mild steel items that should be blocks of rust but are not thanks to this stuff. It's used by musems on swords, armour etc.

Products I also used that don't work as well are both Mothers and McGuires Mag Wheel polish. The biggest problem with Wenol is finding it. I get it from a horse supply store. (It passes the horse drool test.)

Up date - the first application removed the rust. The third removed the bluing.
