I'm curious if any taller players have any experience buying longer clubs and how much you felt it helped your game. My problem is the shorter irons, 8, 9, PW. I hit bad shots with the longer clubs but nothing like the consistently bad shots with those clubs. I've taken to using my 7 iron for everything within 150 yards. My short game is atrocious.  I don't want to go in and get fitted and spend a mint on custom shafts without knowing if  it will help anyway, especially since I'm still a relatively new player. According to the graph I saw on the internet I need 1.5 inch longer clubs. If anyone knows a site to get some cheap clubs like this that would be great too.

You should check out diamondtour.com. I can tell you from personal experience that they make quality stuff, and have excellent customer service. Give them a call and they'll set you up with a really nice affordable set that fits both you and your game.

You need to go to a fitter and get a fitting. A friend of mine started playing, and he's 6-foot-2. But, he has clubs of normal length and lie because his arm length is proportional to his build.

Also, your stance and spine angle will influence what length / lie angle you need.

You don't say what clubs you have now, or how long you have been playing. If you have taken lessons, you might contact the pro and see if he can recommend a fitter. Go to a real fitter - this is not a time to get clubs off an online site.

If you haven't taken lessons before, you might try a couple to stabilize your swing.

If you do need irons with longer shafts or more upright lies, two options (among many) are:

  • Have the clubfitter adjust the clubs to fit you
  • Order a set with your specs from the factory (you would have to pay full price, but wouldn't have to pay extra unless you had luxury grips or an exotic shaft)

If you need a more upright driver or fairway woods, check around. Some maker's drivers are more upright than others.

Focus, connect and follow through!
