Most everyone for years now has been Brand Name conscious for everything from clothing to perfume, to jewelry, you name it. In these hard economic times Brand Names maybe a thing of the past. Keeping money in your pocket is what on everyone’s mind right now.

Let’s talk in the apparel industry about cotton. It’s hard for the consumer to understand that even though the soaring prices of cotton are slowly coming down, they may not see the decrease for 8 months to a year. This is so because in this industry like a lot others the key component (cotton) is bought by factories far in advance and manufacturers have placed orders far in advance at these higher prices. The manufacturers won’t still get the goods for 3 months (production time) and so the price stays high. It may take 2-3 orders before they will see the decrease and in turn pass it on to the consumer. Some manufacturers didn’t increase the goods when cotton prices sky rocketed and they worked on very very low margins and in some cases not very profitable ones to keep the consumer buying and they now may take even longer to reduce the price so they can recoup some of the past losses.

What can consumers and apparel buyers do in the mean time to promote sales and increase their margins. One idea is to go for the Not so Brand Name Company’s. For instance Heritage Cross Apparel is a Manufacturer of Quality Men’s and Ladies Golf and Corporate apparel and has been in business for 10 years. They use trendy fabrics such as “Cross” Dry which consists of a blend of Cotton and Polyester, a “Cross” Cool which consist of 100% Polyester. Both types of fabrics are Moisture Wicking with Antimicrobial finishes. These shirts also come individually bagged with tissue …great for retailing. Take a look at them at www.heritagecross.com.

Take a Brand Name shirt hang it in your Pro Shop or Retail store for lets say $60.00-$90.00 then take that similar shirt from the Not so Brand Name and hang next to it for $40.00-$60.00. Remember the quality of the Not so Brand Name is just as superior as the Name Brand because believe it or not they are both most likely made in the same factories. I can bet the consumer will go with the lower price garment. Quality + Low Price =Sales

In the end I think we have figured out that in these trying times where cash is king the NOT so Brand Name can be a better sell to your customers and will make you more money.

Not so Brand Name is different from No Brand Name.  Rather than buy the less expensive No Brand Name shirts, consumers will shop discount stores and look for sales where they can purchase brand names for less.  For example, I picked up a new Callaway tech fabric shirt at Marshalls for $14.99 that sells list for $60 and 2 Adidas tech golf shirts at Sports Authority for $35 reduced from $65.

Your shirts quality might be just as good as these, but I've never heard of your company and your prices are still higher than the name brand shirts I purchased.

+1, I buy most of my golf shirts at Marshalls. Name brand, at low prices.
