I prefer to play without a glove.  When it gets too hot I have to play with a glove because my hands sweat and the grip becomes slippery.  When I do wear a glove it is good for 4 rounds before it got wet to many times and gets nasty, stretched and ineffective.

I have an old, and I mean old 2 iron I got from my fathers set, it is a Spalding, Bob Golby aluminum shafted with a leather wrap grip.  It has to be 30 years old.  It is still sticky.

I am wondering if a modern leather grip would eliminate my need for a glove.  From what I can tell there are two on the market.

a $16 solid piece, stitched and a $24 =/- wrap.  Obviously you really have to want it!

Any insight?  Anyone playing a leather grips?

As an experiment I ordered a Gripmaster Tour Round Black grip.  I will probably put it on my Driver or 56 degree wedge and see what it is about.

The grip was $20.

Been a long time since I have seen a leather grip. IMO, way too expensive and most likely won't be any better with sweaty hands. Plus, I'll bet it gets worn down quickly in the pressure points. Keep us posted though, interested to hear your thoughts. On a sidenote about gloves, if your hands sweat, get two or three gloves at a time and they will last much longer. Take it off between shots and rotate gloves every hole. Hang the other to dry when not in use. Sweat is the enemy of gloves. If they stay dry, they will last much longer. I can keep three gloves fresh for the entire summer by doing this.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I will try the multi glove routine.  I much rather play without gloves at all.

I will update how I like the grip.  Thanks

My grip I ordered should be here today but I did a little fancy math and came up wit the following.

Three critical assumptions are 1. With leather grips I do not need a glove. 2. I won't swap out clubs too often. 3.Leather grips last 6 years.

Grip costs:

Normal grips are between $4 - 8 and last 2-3 years  so $6 x 13 x 2 = 156 if you install them yourself

The golf glove I like is $13 I go through 4 a year and should probably retire them sooner. so $13 x 4 x 6 = 312

That's $156 + 312 = 468 over 6 years

Leather grips are 20 x 13 = $260.

Anyone with leather grip experience??

I think I am going to put the one leather grip I bought on my 56 degree because I use it often.

I got the grip and installed it on my driver.  It is very sticky.  The amazing thing is that if I wipe it with a damp towel it gets stickier. I think this is going to work for me.  The big question is how long will it last.

IMHO, I much prefer current grips to leather grips of old.  When I first started playing clubs had leather grips, I found them harder to maintain then current grips.

I don't think these are "leather grips of old" These are not wraps directly on the club but a grip "pre-wrapped" on a synthetic grip. I have played several rounds with it and it is STICKY as all get out. I am considering doing all my sticks. My thought is that they won't wear like the synthetic grips. If it is a club you do not use a lot I think it would last quite a long time. Certainly not for everyone but I am the sweaty guy. For example I bring 3 hats because I will soak through them.
