Anyone ever heard of Yonex?

Over this side of the pond Yonex are more well known and we also have Yonex fitting centers but every now and then I still have people say, "What irons are those? Yonex? Never heard of them" with a tone that suggests they think I'm playing cheap aluminium catalogue irons.

I hear the exact same comments about my entire bag from time to time, save the Titleist fairway wood and Scotty putter that is. Yonex? Miura? Scratch? Where did you get that stuff, K-Mart? LOL :-P

I've promised myself that when I get down to a single digit handicap I'll think about Miura irons but until then. To me Miura make the best looking golf clubs on the planet!

I agree with this 100%. I think I might seriously look into getting a set of Yonex though, the more I look at their site the more I am sold on them.

It depends upon the player.  Until recently Yonex hasnt really made any CB clubs or clubs for mid or high-handicappers, so unless you are a highly-skilled player they might not be the best clubs for you.

Id personally call moving from Yonex to TM a downgrade but to each their own.

Phil Michelson used to play Yonex clubs in his early years as a pro.

I only hit a few balls with one club, and was fortunate enough to strike all three really well, but I can definitely understand where you are coming from. And yeah, that's what I was thinking about switching from Yonex to TM as well. TM seems to be making stuff that isn't as amazing as touted and putting a very hefty price tag on their equipment, but that's just my opinion.

Yeah, my thoughts are the same on TM too.  They make good stuff but I dont have the love for them that some folks do.  To each their own, I guess...

Funnily enough a while back I wrote a post in the "Underrated" thread but before clicking Submit I realised that it's all subjective and my "Yonex are under-rated" would fall on deaf ears for those who don't know of them and for those that do know of them it's no big news.

The joke is I have seen them in the junk barrels at Play-it-Again Sports and ignored them thinking they were low end.

Chances are Yonex clubs are made by somebody else.  So you may already be playing them.

Agree.  Most people who dont know much about Japanese clubs have never heard of Yonex.

I played a Yonex Driver back in the mid 90's. It was a really funky, all black, plastic looking thing that I absolutely bombed.  They're great, but pretty expensive clubs

I gamed some Yonex Cyberstar C280 irons a few years ago that I got on clearance (?from Rockbottom...can't recall for sure).  Definitely geared toward mid/high handicappers as they're definitely oversized and cavity-backs.  Great feel, almost the "buttery" feel of some old forged Hogans i had; maybe because they have some sort of composite material lining the cavity.  The difference compared to many other game-improvement irons is that the C280's did NOT have much offset, which I liked as my main misses are pulls and hooks.  Problem to me was the stock shafts were too whippy to me...and instead of reshafting, of course I just bought a new set (my current X20 Tours).

Anyway, their popularity has diminished greatly as Monty's career has gone past its twilight; only Ryo can save them now perhaps!

I bought a complete set of Yonex golf clubs and loved them. Then my husband did the same.  No regrets!
