What would be the major difference between the new TaylorMade R11 irons and the Burner 2.0, or Superlaunch sets?

Callaway Big Bertha 10.5

Callaway X2Hot Hybrids 16*, 22*, 25*

Callaway XR Irons 6-AW

Callaway Mack Daddy 2 54*,59*, 64*

Odyssey Metal-X Milled Rossie Putter

Sole width and offset are the biggest differences.  They're all game improving sets but the Burner 2.0 and Super Launch sets are SGI clubs.  The Burners and Super Launches have very wide soles to help prevent the club from digging into the grass and should be more forgiving if your swing is less than ideal.

The R11 is really intended for better players...not SGI clubs but not "players" clubs either.

Always changing:

Driver: Cobra S2/Nike VR Pro 10.5º

Irons: Callaway X-20 Tour 4-9i

Hybrid: Titleist 910H 19º & 21º

Wood: TaylorMade R11 3w

Putter: Odyssey White Hot

Wedges: Titleist Vokeys - 48º, 54º, 62º

First round: February 2011

The Burner 2.0 irons aren't SGI irons.  They have a medium width sole with a thinnish top line and a shorter heel to toe length than most GI irons, much less SGI irons. They actually look at address more like a player's iron than a GI iron and are played by a few of Taylormade's pros (Natalie Gulbis for one).

My Tools of Ignorance:

Driver: Ping I20 9.5*
Woods/Hybrids: Cobra AMP 3W and 3 HY

Irons: Cobra AMP 4-GW

Wedges: Callaway Forged Copper 56* and 60*

Putters: Scotty Cameron  35" (Several of the flow neck blade variety)

Ball: Bridgestone B330-RX and Srixon Z-Star

Bag: Nike Performance Carry

The Burner Plus is another good option for those wanting a more traditional looking head but a wider sole to help with mishits.

I can vouch that they really do help a ball get up and go straight on thin hits.

I would put them somewhere in-between the 2.0 and the SuperLaunch as far as game improvement goes.

for example:

2.0 - GI

Burner Plus - Super GI

SuperLaunch - Ultra GI

Driver: Ping G25

3w - Ping K15

3h - TEE Trilogy

4h - TEE Trilogy

5h - TEE Trilogy

Irons: Ping G25 6-LW

Putter: Odyssey White Ice D.A.R.T
Bag: Nike SQ Tour

Optics: Bushnell Tour V2 Slope

Shoes: True Linkswear

The allow the better player who knows how the ability tomore easily work the ball (fade or draw when needed) and provide better feedback on mishits.

    • I  had to return to boast  just a  bit. Everyone  knows  i thought  this  is  how the Championship should  be decided. Match play is far  better than stroke  play to determine a  champion and  its  much closer to most sports  playoffs. Lose and you are  out.     Promotion, relegation and match play: PGA Tour unveils radical new structure The PGA Tour has revealed its planned changes to its competitive model, schedule and playoffs, changes that will be more substantial than any in the Tour's half-century-long history. How will the PGA Tour series wrap up its season? The current PGA Tour playoff format consists of three stroke-play events, concluding with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Starting in 2028, the Tour's playoff system will feature match play, and will rotate through various courses. Further details will be revealed at this year's Tour Championship next month.
    • Posted a couple swings here. I think my attempt to blend the movement still results in a more “around” back swing?
    • I never heard dislike for them.  From my perspective, they are just like any other club. Though, they were always probably over-priced, until recently as other club manufacturers have been raising prices the past 5+ years. You had to wait for them to go on sale, which you can get them closer to other club manufacturers.  They sell good clubs. Nothing crazy..
    • Why do so many people dislike PXG clubs and constantly criticize them? All the folks at my club and especially online, I never hear good things about them except from people who bought them and defend them. They look fine to me but curious is there some sort of quality issue or is it just stereotyping the buyers.
    • I have the LM1 launch monitor and I’ve been very impressed. I agree with your assessment and it’s very accurate for me and ease of use is wonderful. The price point of $199 is very hard to beat with this form factor and performance. I was previously using a PRGR.
