Golf shoes for people with flat feet

I am in the market for some golf shoes. (My first pair of golf shoes ever) I have flat feet, so I prefer shoes that are more for comfort than for performance. Anyone else out there have flat feet find a pair of shoes that they like? Also, I have a inclination towards Nike apparel if that makes a difference.

I haven't even tried on any golf shoes for the same reason, I have wide flat feet. The golf shoes I've seen look too narrow where the arch is on a normal foot just like running shoes.

Hmmm... I have the TRUE Linkswear shoes and they are very comfortable... however I wouldn't say that I have very flat feet but for some reason I think I've heard that they are comfortable for people who do.  I know they are comfy for people with wider feet but I think I remember hearing flat feet too...

Anyways at least give them a look and if they sell them locally try a pair on.  I know they have removable insoles, so that might help.

Just food for thought, but I'd check out Asics golf line. I recommend Asics running shoes to 80% of the customers who walk through my door just due to quality over Adidas/Nike/New Balance (not that the suck...well most Nike's are garbage, you just have to know what to buy). But their Gel-Ace might be something to look into. I personally wear some Adidas Tour 360 LTD's (nowadays it's called the Adipure) and I don't have any support issues, I've got mid to low arches. If you TRULY have absolutely flat feet, I would recommend really just getting a pair of Asics Gel-Evolution ($120) or Gel-Foundation ($100) shoes and just play in them regardless of traction :/ I don't really know of any golf specific shoe that is specifically designed for us. Even the tour pro's put insoles in theirs.

My feet are very flat and I have difficulty buying any kind of shoes. For golf, adidas seem to have the least amount of arch. I've tried on all of the major brands and adidas are the only ones I can wear. I have two pair: one is a "tennis" shoe style and the other is a black leather. I've had them for going on two years and I walk all my rounds with zero problems with my feet. If your feet are anything like mine, you will need to try on lots of pairs to see what suits you.

jswang, I also have somewhat flat feet and they are pretty wide as well.  I usually feel a little too tight on the sides of my feet.  I have been looking for some good golf shoes for some time and found some good Nikes for about $80 at Sport Chalet.  I would say, for your flat feet, perhaps try out a couple of pairs of Adidas and Nike that sacm3bill suggests.

I've seen those Nike Air Range shoes before in store and have tried them out before. They feel VERY Comfortable! I was about to buy them, until I realized that the spikes on the bottom were permanent and that they could not be changed. In your guy's experience, how often do spikes need to be changed? Does that mean that I would need new shoes everytime I need new spikes?

I had that concern with the Air Ranges, but the cleats don't seem to be wearing out as fast as traditional cleats (I've seen others say that too). I do tend to be more careful to only use them on grass than I am with traditional cleats. In the end the comfort outweighs the cost concerns for me.

      I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

      Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
