I've been playing with my DCI 762's since the early 2000's. I really like them, but know that today's technology is far superior. So I'm eyeing a set of AP2's. Here is the question... Should I wait for a month+ until the new 2012 AP2/712 hit the retail stores? Or go ahead and buy the current 2011 AP2/710 now? I talked to the pro at the local shop today and he said the 712's will have an extra tungsten weight in the sole but are very similar to the 710's. What would you guys do? Also, any comments from users of the AP/710's? Would love to hear your reviews.

The season is just about over for us here in the North East U.S. so I'd probably wait and hit the 710's side by side the 712's and pick the ones I like best.  I spoke to my local golf shop and they said with Titleist and Mizuno they aren't able to discount unless the manufacturer gives them permission so he didn't think the price on the 710's would be cut by more than $100 for the first few months the 712's are out.  After that Titleist will ease up price restrictions on the 710's and you should be able to get a decent deal.

The concern I have is the shop I go to is fairly small. So I'm not sure how much inventory, or how long they will have the 710's. I live in Newport Beach... So season is year around. I guess waiting another month or so is probably best. Indeed trying both would be preferred.

I went from the DCI 762's to the 710 AP2's.... Havent looked back, the nice thing is that when the 712's come out the price of the 710's will come down.  From what Ive read there isn't that much difference between the 2..... Mostly cosmetic

You should wait for awhile if you can and hit them side by side.

Even if your local shop stops selling the 710's, there will be a ton of golf shops in SoCal that will continue to sell off their inventory, should you decide you like the 710's better.

I used to live in Orange County, and one thing I miss is the selection of golf shops that came in all shapes and sizes--big stores, mom and pop stores, pro shops.

You'll be able to track down somewhere selling them both.

As far as the AP Irons go?  I recently went from some old Callaway Irons to AP1s, and the difference was incredible.  Within a few weeks, I had confidence in my iron shots and had my best round of the season.

What I think is most remarkable is that the ball flight changes with the irons, I have hit with a much higher trajectory without losing any distance.  The ball jumps off the clubface and then seems to kick into an extra gear as it climbs.  Very satisfied with the golfclubs.

Best of luck with the irons--you can't really go wrong here!

Yeah, hit them side by side and see what you like best... Another month or two isn't going to kill you.

I'd recommend that you hit other clubs other than those as well.  I was dead set on a set of AP2s when I started my search for new clubs and ended up with a set of TaylorMade MCs that I like far better... not sure why but I just did.  I'm glad that I tried them out instead of just buying what I had my mind set on.

    • Depends on the swing. The club shaft is not straight at impact, even if you match hand position because the weight of the clubhead will cause the shaft to bend, sending the toe closer to the ground. That depends on your swing speed, and the golf shaft.  Its best just to get fitted for irons and use a lie board.
    • Sounds like you guys had a great time, I loved reading the reviews. I'd love to hear about some of the best shots you guys hit out there, did anyone go super low compared to how they usually score?
    • Yeah. Eastern Michigan is one of the ones I'll admit not knowing. Pretty weak for someone that went to Bowling Green, but they were the Eagles by the time I got there.  Another one I never knew was the NBA Warriors. Before moving to California, the Philadelphia Warriors used a really hokey-looking Indian character. Obviously, they kept the name but changed the logo.     Really. The fact that the teams are pulling these nicknames is proof positive that people are offended by them. If it was still a real argument, Washington Football Team would have never given up that nickname.  The fact that they did is a case-closer.
    • That one really shouldn't be an issue - if you see it happening, you can tell the player to mark the ball and they have to mark the ball. Rule 15.3a:
    • If your hands are high up at both address & impact, should your iron address position be toe up or flush with the ground?
