So, I posted a few days ago about wanting to change over to a players type of iron. I know my handicap says I'm not ready, but I'm confident in my ball striking with my irons.

I've been practicing with Mizuno Mp 68's to get the real feel of a good players club. What a difference it is! When these things are struck properly, you feel pretty amazing. The feel is so good when the ball is properly struck that you don't even have to look up to see where the ball goes, you just simply know..

After hitting the 68's, as well as a few other similar irons (Titleist 690 & 735, Mp60) and building some confidence I've decided to pull the trigger on a set of VR pro blades. They are a very attractive iron, and I hear allot of good things about them. Can't wait for them to arrive so I can get out to the range with these bad boys!!!

Wow. Good for you.

You will surely see how consistent you are in your ball striking.

Just out of curiousity, what made you go with the Nike's vr pro irons?

Was there anything specific?

Nothing too specific, I was trying to choose between a set of Titleist 710's, Mizuno Mp59's, Ping s56's and the VR pro's. The MP59's and the Pings were a little more expensive but If cost wasn't a factor I probably would have gone with the S56's. It sounds kind of silly but I am a pretty big TW fan and also been a happy buyer of all kinds of Nike products all my life. So when I found a brand new set of VR pro's on ebay for $400 I went for it and feel pretty good about my choice. If I can find a set of pre-owned silver dot S56's though for a good deal then I will probably buy those too. I'm becoming a total club *****..

They're super sweet! The feel is amazing. After a couple of range sessions I noticed I was hitting with the toe down allot so I got them being fitted for my height and swing right now. Probably won't have them back until the weekend though

Very nice. I would have a set of vr blades as well if I thought I could hit them well, I will stick with the AP1's for a couple more years, at least. I will be looking forward to what you have to say about them after you get them back from your club maker.

Well, I just got back from playing a short course and swinging on the range. These irons feel great, the long irons are difficult to hit (duh!) but I'm slowly getting the hang of it. I shot great on the short course, last 6 holes were par, birdie, par, par, birdie and a mishit flop resulted in a double bogey final. This is the first time I'v ever gotten backspin on green's, It really feel's great. These irons got me playing more aggressive shots at the pin and rewarding me when struck properly. Luvin it, once you go forged I can't see how you'd wanna go back.

You said it all right there......

I don't mean to bust your chops, but you'd be better served with a more forgiving iron.  There are pro's who even choose clubs with more forgiveness.  I don't think I'm good enough to benefit from blades and I'm a 1-2HC.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
