Anyone have wives that play golf? Do you know what kind of driver they have/like?

I'm considering getting the wife a driver for Christmas to replace the anchor of a driver that came with her set.  She is a very new beginner and I would like to find something easier for her to hit.

Should I take the same principles as our drivers?  Higher loft, etc?  Brands work about the same?

Don't necessarily look for a "women's" driver so to speak... high loft, shorter, with a straw-like shaft.  Get past looking at the flex letter designation on the shaft (L, A, R, S, X, etc).  One makers regular flex could flex identical to another makers senior flex.

The word fitting gets thrown around a lot, but really... if you want to get her a better driver, get her a gift certificate for a fitting AND a new driver.  At the very least, getting her fitted to a shaft that is more suited to her swing speed and a length that has her hitting the center of the face more consistently will probably do wonders for her!  If you get the fitting done at the same place you ultimately by the club, the fitting will usually be at no charge.

Don't focus so much on brand names... focus on what will she will be able to utilize the best.

FWIW... my wife's 1911 .45 handgun is not a women's version.  It's barrel is 1" shorter than the full size 1911, and the magazine holds one less round than a full size 1911.  But it's no different than my 1911.  Except mine is better looking!

The Acuity driver Dicks sells for $20 is actually a nice driver.      I've played nore than a few rounds with my wife's Acuity driver when I was struggling something awful with my various mens drivers this year & hit it very well due to the shorter length.      Nothing bad to say about it ... it's all the club a beginner would need.

Thanks a ton both of you.  I will have her get fitted in the future if she sticks with it.  She has fun, but that driver she has is seriously like swinging a bus.  I might hit Dicks first and if all goes well and if she plays another year, she might get the full upgrade package...if I get to buy my 1911 which ironically I'm looking for at the next show.

    • Yes, because you have lifted to like 120° without bending the left elbow. So when you turn and the left elbow bends… it bends in such a way that you then lower your left humerus and pull the club around you.

    • Day 3 (23 Jun 26) - Grandson put in to play this morning when he arrived at the house.  He wanted to play a full 18 from the "purple" tees (these are custom tees that play shorter than our gold but longer than the red) in a best (super) ball duet.  Was a great day working on course management - seeing him play well (for a 10yr old) - for example, hole 12 has a temp green about 100 yds from the tee box, he hits a solid 8i to 4' pin high and nails a birdie putt.  Could have never been prouder.  These are the moments grandfathers dream of - and hopefully the memories he will recall when his day comes to be Paw-paw for his grandson....may the game live on.
    • Posted a couple swings here. I think my attempt to blend the movement still results in a more “around” back swing?
