Has anyone in Socal played this course yet? I got a chance to play it recently in a practice round... As I'm playing a tournament there on Saturday. They have some very interesting holes on this course... None quite like 18. It was playing 430 from the tips, but the tee is elevated on a mountain. The fairway is 200' below... They advertise it as the largest elevation drop from tee to green in the US. I usually hit my driver 260 to 270 carry. I hit a decent power fade off the tips and only had 86yds left. :-D I know many of you live here in Socal, if you get a chance... Check this place out. I played it for $27 with a cart via Golfnow. Pretty unbelievable price for that caliber of golf. And the greens were superb. The best looking hole in my opinion was the 17th, but there were several solid holes and worth the trip. Here is the photo of 18's massive elevation change. The photo doesn't do it justice to be honest. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mita-sho/175254823/

Wow. As someone who loves the brief empowerment you feel - no matter how unwarranted - when you face a downhill tee shot, that picture you added is borderline pornography. Bet you felt your ball would never land.

As it happens, I've read an article this morning by someone suggesting that elevation in golf course design is a penal feature. The accompanying picture was of a tee location similar to the one you posted. Personally, I can handle that kind of 'penal' all day long...

    • Shot a 37 today! Palmer Course, PGA National. Really fun. 6/9 GIR, no lost balls. The double and the bogey were both three putts from like 35 feet or so.  The birdie at the last was really fun. I stood over that fifteen footer and thought wow I’m really about to make this, aren’t I? And I hearted it. Really fun. It’s like 9000 degrees outside but I battled through it well. Good times.
    • I had been in a bit of a slump for the month of June. Handicap index has slowly risen, and there were few sub-80 scores. Today was a different story at Leslie Park GC. Lots of solid shots, GIR's, up & downs, for a 77 (7.8 differential). As with most rounds, there were a few loose shots and crappy putts, but it was a good day.

    • Day 6  (26 Jun 26) - Played 18 today in the Friday men's group shootout.  Would love to say it was an awesome round, but it wasn't  - had a tough day with the putter (especially on the front - short putts missing left or right or just short - just could not get a feel for the greens).
