Hi Guys...not to be an alarmist but we just buried one of my closest friends a week or so ago and he passed from complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He and I grew up in the hayday of clubmaking in the 70'sΒ and learned techniques of refinishing woodheads, the advent of aluminum shafts and the original graphite shafts and the advancement to metal woods. Over the years we have both cut thousands of steel and graphite shafts as well as heating up epoxied heads to remove the broken shafts.

The physicians cannot pont with certainty to the cause of his medical condition but did say that it was very possible that the dust from shaft cutting or epoxy-related fumes may have been a cause.

So as a precaution, if you are doing a lot of this work, a proper mask and ventilation system is a must. We don't need any more sad stories.

Sorry to hear about your friend....

As you said, proper precautions are a must.

Again, sorry.

    • WOW, are things that different in the U.S.?Β  I play in the UK, and on my course a player with a handicap of 6.9 would play off of 6, and a player with a handicap of 20 would play off of 19. In a medal comp that means the higher handicapper would get an additional 13 shots, or 13 points if it were stableford. If the difference were only 5 shots the lower handicapper would win 10 times out of 10
