I hate gloves. I really do. I have a glove that was about $30 sitting here and as much as I want to love it I hate it.

Ive tried a number of them and its not the fit, it fits great, very comfortable, I just hate the feeling of the glove on my hand. Ive played with and without and it doesnt seem to make any real difference. My grips are all new and have a very tacky feel to them, so Im guessing that is the reason.

Anyway, stepfather plays a lot and he suggested using athletic tape instead.

I gave it a shot and absolutely love it. My hand doesnt feel trapped and I can feel the club better and the tape keeps my fingers from getting sore after 200 balls on the range.

But my question is that are there any rules about tape being used...or the kind of tape?

The reason is that this tape I picked up is also VERY tacky/rubbery to the feel and I know for sure that its helping me hold onto the club better than I would without it..and maybe even better than a white golf glove.

Are their rules for tape and if so where would I find those rules?

No idea about the rules but I would think that athletic tape would lessen the feel of pitch/chip shots and in putting.

cool, thanks :-)
I thought I had read or seen that somewhere that some big player used tape. He still uses a glove too, right?

My game has definitely become better since I stopped trying to force myself to wear a glove. Ive tried a few of them and its just so uncomfortable that I cant stop focusing on the glove and my hand. Not sure what the difference is with using tape instead...likely just a mental thing.

Doesnt seem to be so far. Maybe because Ive only got the tape on two fingers of each hand and only one piece on each. Just enough to help with gripping the club.

I'd probably notice pretty quick if something was making my putting worse because I just got to where I can putt pretty decently...lots of one and two putts instead 3 and 4s....and my short game around the green has been really good from pretty early on for some reason. Something about it seems to just come natural. Wish the hell it was like that off the tee box :-D

    • Terry - what a story…I’m about 12 yrs your junior but I do have friends in similar places of life. Like others have said - “go for it”.  The fact that you’re willing to challenge yourself in the midst of dealing with something like Parkinson’s is hero level stuff….looking forward to seeing how this great adventure plays out and make sure to get some of it on video as well.  Make them memories dude!
    • Played nine today. Just went out trying to make a swing that had the feels of what I am working on. I would give it a C- at best. The best swing came on the 9th hole, 220 yard par 3, downwind. I finally made a swing where I felt the pause, and the arms down stuff like I practice. I hit the 4 iron about 215 yards, it rolled just off the back of the green about 20-Ft from the pin.  I might play 10 yards shorter on every iron shot, and make that pause swing, cause I can still hit it about 90-95% the distance.  Distance wedges or 3/4 wedges are going to different. Shanked two of them today trying the pause, arms down stuff. Might spend a bit of time looking at the video on those shots specifically.
    • Day 350: good practice session today. Hit about 25 balls, working slowly on my priority piece. It looks decent in slow motion. Better at full speed but not quite there. Then putted for about an hour. Focused on putts inside 10’ but also did a stack putting session.
    • Two of my golfing Buddie's are left handed. I will play a couple of rounds and use their clubs and see how I do.  Played last Thursday and had the worst game ever. (Playing in really strong winds. (SW @ 20 to 30 mph with > gusts.)  Will let everyone know when I get back out. May not play until Monday.   Thanks everyone, for your encouragement.    Terry
