Background...

I was a 5 Hdcp a few years ago and hurt my neck. I haven't played any in two years.

I hit some balls this past week and feel I may be ready.

I played Mizuno MP32's for a long time. I played approx 5 times per week.

I feel that my iron game is about average.

Long story short....

I sold the MP32's and am looking for a new set.

I am thinking a mild game improvement club.

What would be the best sets to check out? $400 range used or new....

Forged feel is great, but I'm not stuck on that anymore.

X20/22..... Tours?

?????

I have read a lot of reviews... Distance or how long this type goes will not be a factor in my decision.....

I realize everyone is different. I just want to hear some opinions.

Thanks,

Kevin

If you liked the MO32's but want a GI set, try the JPX-800's.

I hit them recently with Project X 5.0 shafts (Regular flex) and they were dead on sweet.

I am thinking of getting a set soon.

I was a 10 at best many years ago, but in 1998, I shattered my left wrist, leaving me with a steel plate & 13 screws. I had the Dr take an inch from my hip and insert into my shortened left arm so it would be the right length. It took 2 years and 4 surgeries, but it worked. Since 2000 I have played almost weekly, trying various GI clubs with graphite shafts to soften the impact to my wrist.

I am currently a 17 and have seen 13 & 15 in the mid-summer the last 2 years.

My current setup is the Powerbilt AFO Nitrogen filled irons with 55g graphite shafts...the footprint is medium and works well with my swing.

I also game the Callaway X24 Hots.....when my game is on.(more Spring & summer)

Mizunos have already been great irons. If you were hitting your MP32's well, I say go with Mizuno again.

I've had the first gen Titleist AP2s and they were pretty good clubs for me. It launched high and was pretty forgving for being a "player's" iron.

I've always found the Callaway X series to be clunky looking at address, even the X tours. They were extremely forgiving when I tried them, though.

Best Regards,
Ryan

    • On my trip at Bandon. I have a couple of best shots come to mind. I had kind of a stupidly good short game shot out of some nasty stuff. I didn't really make any bombs putting.  I could say any drive I hit straight that was hitting directly into the wind, lol. That was nasty. I literally hit a ball like 150 yards right. I am going with my drive on hole 18 at Old MacDonald. 469 yard par 4, down wind. The narrowest fairway on the course, and you have to navigate two sets of bunkers. I stripe one down the middle, catch the slope and have to roll out to about 95 yards to the pin. So yea, that 370-ish drive in the fairway on a 469 par 4 wins the shot of the week.
    • Day 2: mirror work while watching some TV. Checking on some backswing stuff primarily - making sure I’m still steep enough in the backswing.
    • Day 88 (28 Jul 25) - Short session this afternoon after a full day of yard work at the house.  Worked on setup and tempo thru the shot with the 52° wedge in the backyard.  Hit about 20 balls total - just staying focused on the process.
    • Day 10: More putting with the metronome. Short putts feel really slow and long putts feel really fast. Getting more comfortable every day.
    • Day 301 - 2025-07-28 Watched a lot of golf today at Fox Chapel, but then came home and did some mirror work. Re-dedicated. Which is saying something, as I've been playing okay. But relying on my athleticism to just do "okay."
