I guessed my handicap to be roughly 25, give or take, at the beginning of the year. I finally threw in my last 6 rounds into a handicap calculator and got that number. I doubt I'm

that low, but handicap takes your best rounds into account, and I tend to go really low at a few courses, but struggle at others. Lessons with a good pro are largely responsible for the improvement over the past 3 months, though, combined with 30+ rounds in the past 3 months. Also, people think they should shoot their handicap all the time...which ain't true. It's what you can shoot on a good day (average of best rounds times .96), and shooting below that must mean you're on fire, or getting better, quickly. There's still days I struggle to break 100 - those are mercifully few and far between--but I've gone as low as 80 this year as well.
