I tend to struggle with a pull or pull-hook and wonder if anyone out there has some advice for me about something that I have noticed lately.

When I set up to the ball the club face looks nice and square, but when I return to address the ball after my practise swing or waggle, I see that the club face has closed.

I suspect that it is due to something in my grip, particularly my right hand grip. It feels as if my hands are somehow not truly relaxed at address, and that they are actually holding the club face square. Could it be that during the practise swing / waggle my hands "relax" to their natural position, and that my right hand then closes the face?

Whenever the grip is discussed the left hand position is always described in detail (strong or weak) but not that much is said about the right hand. Should the right hand sit squarely on top of the shaft, or rotated slightly to the right?Or left? (I am right handed.)

Or am I on the wrong track here?

How far forward is your shaft lean at address?

I take a fairly neutral left hand grip (V points just to the right of my chin) and the shaft at address is fairly vertical. I don't use a forward press before my swing.

Any suggestions will be welcome because I am not comfortable setting up with an open face and then hoping it will "close to square" during the swing. Surely a grip problem?
