Anyone else here play better walking than in a cart?

I play better when walking but it's primarily due to correct club selection. I hate getting to my ball, far away from the cart, and then wanting to hit a shot that requires a different club. I usually end up forcing a bad shot for pace of play sake, and lazieness. When I can take a cart off the path, I'd say my play is equal to walking or close to it although nothing beats the focus you get from walking and taking in the entire course.

I have found a some what new twist. I recently bought a self propelled remote carry cart by Cart-Tek. This is the best IMO. I have suffered from Osteo-arthritis in the knees for over 5 years. Carrying and even pushing a cart was very difficult as the increased weight on my knees was too painful. I have found that by losing 10 pounds and a simple PT training regimen. The pain has subsided significantly. Now by using the Cart-Tek cart I am able to walk 18 holes 4-5 times a week. I am virtually pain free and am losing more weight as I continue to play. My scores have lowered. My handicap will definitely be going down as soon as we can start entering scores here in Massachusetts starting april 1st. I have shot 3 rounds in a row 82 86 81. I am a 14 handicap and 85 -94 was my usual scoring range previously. It really gives me more time to think about the shots and make correct club selection. I would highly recommend the remote carts to anyone with the same knee issues I have.

Have you seen the True Linkswear golf shoes?  They advertise as barefoot comfort.  I actually just ordered a pair, as I'm also committing to walking a lot more this year.  I walked 18 holes in my footjoy dryjoys this weekend, and it killed my feet.  I'm excited to try these things out.

A close as I can get to golfing barefoot without the pain of stepping onto something nasty. Balance and feeling a weight shift has always been an important part of my game.

The truelink shoe concept is similar to the minimalist footwear for hiking and running. Provides as much "feel" as you can get with mother Earth without the "odd" looks of the 5 finger shoes.  Let me know how they work!!!!!!

I've walked 9 a couple times in the true tours now.  I really like them.  As far as comfort goes, my feet don't hurt at all the entire time, which is all I ever wanted.  One of the guys I played with was wearing some footjoys and I was telling him about my true tours.  He said he experiences the same pain on his little toes after walking too much in his footjoys.  At the end of the 9, his feet were hurting a little bit, and mine were doing great.

Some other notes:

I wore them to the range several times before getting a chance to play a round in them.  They had some breaking in to do, as the left one was kind of digging into my ankle.  It's fine now though.

I was a little concerned about traction because I've never tried out a spikeless shoe before, but I haven't noticed any slipping, so all good on that front too.

The zero heel threw me off a little at first.  It took me a little while to reconfigure my balance, but I'm doing fine with that now.

The first time I walked 9 in them, I did end up with a blister on the side of my big toe, which was weird because I didn't notice any rubbing or discomfort there.  No blisters the second time though.

Overall, I'm very happy with these shoes and I think they'll go a long way in helping me enjoy walking.

    • I've had this one since 2021.  Amazon.com No complaints.  I had to reglue the little Velcro tabs onto the yellow foam guide thingies. But that's not a big deal. The Velcro came off almost immediately and I put them back on using super-glue and they've been fine ever since. I've hit a lot of balls off this in my garage and I have no complaints.
    • I've been thinking about buying a hitting mat for home indoors use. I currently only got a small patch of some mat I bought years ago and stand on a wooden platform. It'd be nice having a mat to stand on and hit from. After some searching, I see Fiberbuilt often being praised. Not sure if I can get hold of it easily here, and buying internationally can get expensive for a mat that's already quite pricey (~$800). The Wittek Quattro is also usually favorably mentioned, and at half the price (~$400) of the Fiberbuilt. Anyone have experince with this mat? Any other suggestions?
    • It just occurred to me that the last time I was serious about golf, my woods were made of….wood! Also interestingly (to me anyway) as I shopped for “woods”, mostly on eBay, I found that all the clubs in really nice cosmetic/aesthetic shape (good finish, nice club face, good grip) were woman’s clubs. Seems they either take really good care of them or don’t use them much.    And lastly, for now anyway, I went to a range today that has Top Tracer monitors at all the stations - another “new” development that may have been around for quite a while, but this was a first for me. I found it useful although I’m sure I only scratched the surface of its capabilities.
    • Agreed. For me, the feel was introduced to get the arms moving down from the top. It wasn't necessarily a "get it in front of the hip" explanation as the correct position but more for an exaggerated feel to get rid of the earlier issue.
