Started last May with a cheap set of RAMs and then bought from Gigagolf...

Driver

3 Wood

3-P

52.6

58.12

Kept the RAM putter and I'm pretty good with it ;)

so 13 clubs...

I feel like its reasonable to think about a 14th because I love golf, have been improving pretty steadily, can tell the difference between all my clubs when I am hitting them right, and intend to play a lot in the near future.

The 5 wood vs. 2 hybrid/iron thing has been discussed in plenty of other othreads so how about these alternatives...

62* wedge    i understand these are very hard to use but for some reason by far my best club now is my 58. I often get into situations where i want to use the 58 but the 12* of bounce aren't right for the lie, and i end up using a club that rolls to much at the end or hitting a chunky shot with the 58

7 wood      i hit my 3 wood pretty well, and if there are any redundancy in my bag now its probably 3 & 4 iron. What if I could replace both with a 7 wood and then add a 2 hybrid/wood and go to 50/54/58 or get a 62 (PW is 46).

Thanks for your advice, and what a beautiful game.

Get a 3 hybrid, but hold onto and learn to hit the 4 iron. Then choose between the 2h and 5w based on whether you prefer the 3w or 3h. The 62* wedge, assuming you got the scoring wedges, is a good choice and only costs about 20$. I have one in my bag and I love the low bounce.

Learn to chip and pitch with all your wedges really well, the GG wedges aren't the best but they have enough versatility and a low price that they're good to learn with. You might be ok buying 15 clubs and just leaving one out based on the course conditions or how you end up hitting it. I personally would ditch my PW without question if I had to. I plan on replacing my 3h since I dislike it, and I don't need my gap wedge either.

Which models of clubs did you end up with?

In My Bag:

Adams Super LS 9.5˚ driver, Aldila Phenom NL 65TX
Adams Super LS 15˚ fairway, Kusala black 72x
Adams Super LS 18˚ fairway, Aldila Rip'd NV 75TX
Adams Idea pro VST hybrid, 21˚, RIP Alpha 105x
Adams DHY 24˚, RIP Alpha 89x
5-PW Maltby TE irons, KBS C taper X, soft stepped once 130g
Mizuno T4, 54.9 KBS Wedge X
Mizuno R12 60.5, black nickel, KBS Wedge X
Odyssey Metal X #1 putter
Bridgestone E5, Adidas samba bag, True Linkswear Stealth
Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Interesting. I think I would keep the 4 iron in though, sorry i worded that pretty ambiguously. I hit the 4 longer than the 5 most of the time. My 3 I sometimeshit longer than my 4, but I usually slice or hit to low to the ground to go further. I think I could learn to hit it effectively which is why I think about the 62*.

The irons were TRX MR Control, the wedges are SGS. The driver and 3 wood are discontinued, not sure exactly, 10.5* and 15*, stiff shafts.
