I got a new set of Taylormade TP CB irons online about 10 days ago.  I accidentally ordered them with the True Temper X-Stiff X100 steel shafts.  I've hit them a few times at the range and love the heads, but I think the shafts aren't right for me.  My driver swing speed range is 98-103, with about a 250 yd average carry.  My 8i I normally hit about 150-155.  The PW-7i seem to hit fine, but I'm really struggling with the 6-4 irons.  I'll hit what feels like a solid 6-iron and it will go the same distance as the 7-iron.  Also, I seem to be having a hard time working them, even when I try to the extreme.

I know the CB are not as 'workable' as the MC or MB heads, but do you think it could also be a shaft issue?  I think I need to send these back and get standard R300 steel shafts?  What do you guys think?

My question is why did you not return them off the bat?

A 98-103 SS is typically not an X Stiff X-100. It is an S300 type and maybe not that heavy. Flex also depends on tempo.

But if you're typical, Yes! it's the shaft. Get another shaft in the 7i and see what happens, and then change the set. No way the typical 98-103 goes x-stiff - it's stiff and it's heavy and that does not bode well for the typical Joe.

I didn't return them right away, because I just received them 10 days ago and figured I might as well hit a couple of the irons a few times at the range to see how they felt.  I got them from GlobalGolf online (mint-used condition), they have a 14-day return policy.  I got an RMA this morning and will be returning them shortly.  They were a good buy, $440 for the set (basically brand new), compared to $600-$700 new.

Thanks for the feedback.

    • Flying into ATL on Sept 11 (Thu), early, leaving Sept 15 (Mon), late. Dates are fixed. Trying to hit the best RTJ Trail stops without spending half the trip in the car.   Plan: Thu: Grand National (Lake or Links) Fri: GN AM, then drive to Capitol Hill, play Senator Sat: Capitol Hill – Judge Sun: Ross Bridge Mon: Oxmoor Ridge early, drive to ATL   Thinking about squeezing in Cambrian Ridge after Capitol Hill—worth it or too much? Would love any feedback or tips from those who’ve done it.
    • Day 73 (13 Jul 25) (note: forgot to post the "day" for the past few days, up to day 73) - Easy day in the backyard, with time on the 50deg wedge and the mat (simulating tight lies around the green) working on low spinners.  Love using this mat as it is small and portable but also lends to being a type of alignment rod to get a proper setup.  Finished up with a few swings with the 54.
    • Congrats on the new leg of your journey - the challenge of learning something new while dealing with Parkinson’s is totally awesome.
    • Played several holes today with my Buddy's left haded clubs.  I was going to order just woods, but after playing again today and hitting the irons well, I will be ordering a complet set of Left handed Clubs.    They are Callaway Edge, Regular flex.  I am excited !  Will let you know after I try them and let you know how well they performed.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • Depends in part on what lie the greens crew left me. If it's first cut of rough or fairway and clear shot to cup, it's an 8i chip and run. If it's shaggy, or I have to go over ridge or bunker, it's a cut shot with a 58* LW.
