What is your favorite golf story that the average fan does not know about?

I`ll nominate Erik Compton- started playing golf at age 12 following his first heart transplant surgery and the advice of his doctor not to play contact sports.  #1 Ranked JR Player, 2 time All-American, Walker and Palmer Cups.  Multiple victories on the Canadian Tour in 2004, finishing top on their money list/order of merit.  Won the King Hassan II Trophy in Rabat, Morocco in 2005 against a pretty strong field.

Suffered a major heart attack in 2007 which led to a 2nd transplant surgery in 2008.  M ade the cut in the 2008 Children’s Miracle Network Classic in Orlando, a PGA Tour event which took place less than six months following his second heart transplant. Made 13 of 19 cuts on the PGA Tour from 2008 to 2011.

In 2009 Erik received the prestigious Ben Hogan Award from the Golf Writers Association of America at a presentation during the Masters Tournament. This award is given annually to a golfer who has displayed courage in overcoming a major physical handicap.

Won the June 2011 NW Mexican Open which, when combined with a handful of earlier NW top finishes, assured him of finishing top 25 and earning his PGA Tour Card for 2012.

This year, he has made 7 of 10 cuts on the PGA Tour and currently is t-8 in New Orleans after rounds of 69-68.  Lets hope he has a strong weekend to capture his first PGA Tour Top 10 finish!
