I went to the range today and some really nice 5 iron shots,

When I went to hit my 3h it didn't go very far at all.

I hit it right on the screws, just picked it up off the mat, but it only went like 150yds

I hit my 5 iron 170-180,

My hybrid shot went much higher than my iron one, it just kinda ballooned and fell short.

It feels like my shaft flex may be way too soft, would this cause whats happening?

Mmm I don't know too much about the technicalities but I believe a 3h should go much farther than 150! 5 iron distance seems about right but if you caught one nicely with the 3h that should be at least 190 I would think.

Don't quote me just judging from experience

What he said.  Plus dont trust those mats.  There may be some funky angle of attack / ball spin action happening off of those mats.  Hit some grass, be it range or course.  If those numbers still hold true, then maybe hybrids (or that particular hybrid) arent for you.  I had a Nike CPR when I first started playing.  Fun to hit as a beginner, but had a butt load of offset and a floppy shaft.  That thing would bring rain, but quickly became obsolete to me.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
