I was on the if team this year, but none of our varsity team players seem to get any of this when they routinely drive is 330 and shoot par or under, even at courses with a 140 and higher slope. Just seems a little odd to me. On an unrelated note, does anyone know any good drills/practice ideas for chipping and putting?

Well if you are are driving the ball 260 to 270 at sea level I have no clue why people gawk.  That is not particularly exceptional for your size.

People don't gawk, they just always seem annoyed severely when I join a group, and then surprised when I manage to hit a reasonable shot. I'm nothing special, just is frustrating when you try to play with others at first.

Perhaps you carry yourself in an immature way.  Dunno.

I assume junior golfers playing rounds by themselves are serious about the game.  I never have an issue with them joining my group.

Playing off 6 at 14 is pretty decent. Not quite sure what your height and weight have to do with it though. Get your self to the chipping and putting ground and put a lot of hours in. At your age I was putting in about 2-3 hrs a day practicing + at least 2 rounds a day during holidays/weekends. That is the effort you need to put in to get lower. Concentrate on that, not what other people say or"gawk."

Agree that maybe it's because you present yourself immaturely.  Almost every junior I've ever been paired with has been very serious about the game, and probably the majority have been better than me.  And a number of them have been MUCH smaller than me (I'm 6'2", 205, ex college athlete in good shape) and consistently and significantly outdrove me.  Despite the protestations this just feels like fishing for compliments to me.

OP:  do you have ANY insight whatever about why this might be happening to you?  I am asking for possible explanations that have occured to you, or that occur to you if you think hard about it.

Perhaps we can then help you to decide between the various possibilities that you propose.  Right now it is next to impossible to even speculate, and your posts are leaving us wondering about motive, cred and the like .....

I'd be curious about a number of things.  How does he dress on the course.  Does he properly introduce himself to his group.  Does he follow proper golf etiquite.  Etc...

I wear nice pants or shorts (rarely) and a ventilated polo. I shake hands on the first tee with everyone, or wherever I meet with the group. I don't swear, but do occasionally talk to my ball/myself during my shot. I don't walk on the lines of people's putts, but will walk ahead along the side of the fairway when playing with people in carts to stay at a good pace. I guess I'm just unfortunate enough to get grumpy playing partners, or I'm committing an unknown offense.

Anger is a natural response to seeing a good shot from someone else.  (joking)

Especially when it is done by one as modest as you appear to be.

It is so sad that when you and your friends are routinely breaking par and hitting it 33 you are the ONLY one who is treated so poorly.

My heart bleeds for you.

Now....we know you are a huge hitter. We know you are a  breaker.

Some of us are amused by the way you pretend to not know why people are surprised when they see such awesome talent.

It;s like a gorgeous girl wondering why boys keep looking at her and other girls are jealous.

The fact that you need to ask for putting and chipping drills would indicate that this is just a troll post. Look some up. Don't ask someone to type out a drill that you could find for yourself in 3 seconds.

The offence is not unknown as you put it. You are coming across as boastful and arrogant but pretending to be humble.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Wait...I thought we were getting somewhere with the ventilated polo discussion.

Once again, I do not break par. I'm 4-6 over on my average slope home course. I've seen others playing much better, and am not sure how stating my flaws comes across as pretending to be humble. I am proud of my achievement of going from a 24 to a 6 in the past 2 years, but I don't think that makes me any better a player than anyone else who goes out frequently.

I hit my driver on average 230yds, but I have a very large pecker. I rarely ask people to compare lengths though. Maybe I should just grow up!

What is your course rating?  If you average "4-6 over" on a course of average difficulty, your handicap should be lower than 6.  Do you keep an official handicap?

You know what, forget it. I was trying to see if there was some unknown hate for junior folders in the community, not start a hate-fest. Now, if someone would be so kind as to tell me how/if you can close a thread, I'll gladly do so.

5'-6", 150 lbs, and you hit it 330?  I'd want to know what's wrong with anybody who is NOT surprised/impressed at that.

I would categorize this as a humblebrag.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
