#1) I've also heard that when hitting down on the ball, you are not compressing the ball between the club and ground, but just compressing the ball against the clubface on impact.

#2) I've heard from a friend that I can practice making perfect contact (on the sweetspot, hitting down on the ball) with irons by hitting the ball from the sand.

If #1 is true, then #2 is possibly true.

do you all agree with either of these?

For #1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mPAlrikWcw   or read the thread http://thesandtrap.com/t/15607/ball-actually-pinched-against-ground-or-not . Or ask yourself have you ever compressed the ball when it was teed up.

2 might still be true. I know I get about zero practice out of them (my facility doesn't have one) so I tend to ignore drives that require them.

Those arguments seem to say (and the videos show) that the ball is not compressed against the ground, but just against the club face.

So hitting out of sand, if hit perfectly flush, should result in a similar hit as on grass.  Hence, #2 could very well be true.

Right?

    • Day 159 1-19 Flow drill while attempting to add arch in wrist on downswing. Not where it needs to be but felt good working on swing flow.
    • Day 1 (19 Jan 26) - after a week lay-off due to travels, felt great to get in some drills in the backyard today.  Started with lead arm only short pitches focused on squared face and light divot post ball.  Haven’t done this in a while and it showed, with some skulls and slices.  Settled into easy flighted balls - wrapped up with standard two handed swings.  Good restart to the daily drills.
    • That depends what you do within those two.  Are they your only options?   Check out Fit for Golf if you get a moment.  It's linked on the sidebar;  I did it for two years, stopped for a really bad reason, and I plan to get back to it soon.   Mike Carroll also has a great free podcast about a lot of topics in golf fitness.
    • Day 19, 1/19.  Finished work in time to spend 25 minutes hitting balls (hit 15) indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Usual focus.
    • Day 30 - 2026-01-19 Got 10 minutes in on the mat / net working on exagerrating movements I'm working on. And grip. Also worked with my friendly AI to summarize key negative tendencies I have so that I can build a personal checklist to follow. Will do more mirror work tonight.
