Tried these weapons for a bit or so back in 2007.  I eventually went with the 695CB due to a bit better feel for my swing.  At that time I was playing 5-6 times a week, and practiced every day.  I just didn't like the feel of the club for what it's worth.

I moved to the 695mb this season.  After 20 rounds or so, they're the best clubs in my bag, by far.  I had been using 755's for the previous 2 years, and it was an easy transition to the 695mb.  They are still pretty forgiving, with their z-muscle design.  Mine have TT Black Gold shafts in stiff.  They play stiffer to flex as they cpm a bit stiffer than a DG x100, which fits me perfectly.  Toe shots still get some air and stay pretty straight.  For me, it's probably more the shaft than anything, but I have no plans on taking them out of my bag in the foreseeable future.  I chose the 695mb because of their forgiving nature, but I also practice a lot more than previous years.  I have made some fantastic recovery shots (had driver issues) with them, and they respond well when trying to shape the ball.  For the price of a used set, you could try them and most likely resell them for the same amount if they don't fit.  Mine were in excellent condition and were only $200 plus shipping.

Remember the movie "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson.  There was a line where he told his kids.... "aim small, miss small".

I learned to play golf using my dad's old clubs.  An old set of 1963/64 MacGregor Tourney MT2 irons.  Butter knives!.  I purchased 1 set of game improvement cavity backed clubs since.  I found my ball striking got sloppy because of those clubs.  Yes, they were more forgiving than blades.  Yes, they made the game abit easier to hit the ball straight. But you may develop some bad habits using them.

Still, it's no accident that 95% of tour pros (nowadays) play some form of cavity backed irons.  Actually, my favorite irons were the Titleist 962b irons.  They were cavity backed blades.  I loved the iron profile.  If they hadn't worn out, I'd still be playing them today.  I currently play the Titleist 710mb blade.

I often tell my buddies "if you can't shoot 72 from the white tees, why move back to the blues or black tees?!"  For the challenge?!!!!  They haven't even met the challenge from the white tees yet.  Ultimately, they're going to do what they want to do.

Go with whichever is most comfortable for you.  Get the irons YOU want.  Life is too short.

Good luck.

    • Day 87 (27 Jul 25) - Made it an easy session with the wedge this afternoon, worked on staying in the shot and not lifting out - split between low spinners and higher floaters.
    • Shot my new low 72 (par 70) today. Had 5 birdies, also a new best, which included a hole out from the bunker on par 3 6th, and another hole out pitch from 15ish yards on the long par 4, 15th.  Got a couple of other good breaks. Except for an OB drive on 14th (and ensuing double bogey), not much went wrong. All in all I might have used up a year's worth of luck in a single day.
    • Back in the saddle after vacation.  Day 1: played 18. Did not have it, but still battled to an 82. Felt closer to a 90, but that’s fine.
    • Yes, I have seen this from the older crowd that play the 4,700 yard tees and want to know why they get less strokes from there. Always trying to game the system 🤣
    • Day 300 - 2025-07-27 Good 44-ball segment. GSPro was acting goofy, so I just put it on the Quad. Then I hit a bunch of low spinners. Hit 14° down to 9.8° down, with the average closer to 12.3° or so. Focused mostly on the backswing. Right knee good, hands roll up and out a little before laying off (FAR).
