First off, has anyone ever used the SE 685 irons? OS/X

They are sold by GolfSmith. Here is the link to the OS version: http://www.golfsmith.com/product/30046352/snake-eyes-685-os-milled-iron-head

They seem to be a bit more forgiving (as compared to the X forged) -- something I could truly use.

I've always been a Snake Eyes fan -- hence my name.

What I'm looking to do is replace my old 600xc irons with these possibly.

============================================

Another question I had was about shafts. Anyone have any recommendations that would be good for these irons?

I was thinking either the TT Dynalite Gold XP's, or the TT Lite XL's, stiff. Both fairly low priced (something I'm looking for).

Not necessairly going for "light" shafts -- but these just seemed good. The 600xc's I have now are shafted with DGS300's.

============================================

Also, I'm looking for a new driver!

Something with 10.5, that can shoot straight and long. I want to keep my balls on the fairway and distanced.

Currently using an Tizirc Easy-Air. It's time to step up my game and get a new driver! I want to improve my game.

============================================

Shafting clubs -- as far as the shafting goes: to have someone shaft a set of irons...relatively expensive?

The shop here in town wants 17.99 per club. That doesn't include grips, ferrules etc. It seems kind of high to me!

I could probably not do it myself because I don't have the tools or equipment that's probably needed. So I'll probably have to have someone online or in-town do it. Any tips?

Why don't you go to a Golfsmith brick-and-mortar store and get fitted for irons?

They could determine the specifications for a SE.685 set which would fit you. Most component companies offer a package deal if you have them assemble a set of irons for your specs. Golfsmith might have a couple of demonstrator irons made up from the SE.685 line.

Or, you might find another model you like.

Shafts: Take a look at the True Temper web site and figure out what types of shafts you might want. Then, get on a launch monitor and determine which shafts actually work for you.

As for driver, we don't know your HDCP, your clubhead speed, swing characteristics, etc.

Again, go to Golfsmith or somewhere else and get fitted.

Focus, connect and follow through!

It's a cool name and all but Snake Eyes as far as their balls are concerned, are junk... they literally feel like hitting rocks. I've never hit any of their clubs, but if it feels comfortable to you, run with it.  I just went back to Ping g2 after playing G5 for the last year or so. If a wooden stick with duct tape wrapped around it inspires the confidence to hit the shots you like then play it. So much of the game is mental... hence why I stepped back in technology with my irons. They just felt better.

Golfsmith used to produce a lot of quality components and was a great place for club builders. In the last several years they've scaled their component business way back and they only offer about 25% of what they once did.

If you're looking to get some nice component irons I would look at Hireko Golf. They have lots of great stuff at very competitive prices. Also look at Value golf, which offers a lot of the same things as Hireko plus some other models. Both places offer clubs in components or they will build them for you.  Checking Value Golf's site you can get a set of Acer XF pro's  (similar to Callaway Razr X Tour ) built for about $150. Take a look at FST shafts (designed by the same guy that did the original Rifle shafts and KBS shafts)

“You don't have the game you played last year or last week. You only have today's game. It may be far from your best, but that's all you've got. Harden your heart and make the best of it.”

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
