My current equipment is approximately 7 years old (Cleveland TA6 Irons, Taylor Made R5890 Driver, and cheap Founders Club woods 3-5).  I am looking to buy a new driver, 4 wood, and 3-4 Hybrid.  I have selected a Cleveland SL290 Driver, Launcher 4 Wood, and 3-4 Mashie Hybrids.  I currently hit a S flex on all my clubs.  I have been 3 different times to Edwin Watts and Dick's to hit off the launch monitor and even went through a fitting with a Ping rep.

The problem being I have gotten 3 different opinions on what flex I should choose.  My current swing speed is between 89-97 MPH and is not very consistent as I am a high handicap.  I hit my current driver somewhere between 240-250 with a sometimes nasty slice and my 8 Iron around 150 Yds.

Would I be better off with going to a R flex shaft.  All of the new Cleveland clubs come standard with Miyazaki shafts.

If it makes a difference I am 6'4.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Not sure I understand completely, but I take a somewhat slower back swing than my follow through.

My current ball flight is rather high to with a 9.5* Driver.  The new one I believe I will get in a 9* since 9.5* is not available and don't want to go to 10.5*

I had a 19 HDCP two seasons ago, and it has climbed from my failed attempt to jack up the swing for more distance.

I got a fitting for clubs, and the pro suggested a lesson or two to try to stabilize my swing before making a decision on irons.  If you sometimes have a "nasty slice," and 10 MPH variance in swing speed, you might consider a lesson to see if you can stabilize your swing - not rebuild it or make it perfect - just stabilize it.

My guess is that with a stabilized swing, you would fall between R and S in driver flex. The slice may come from too stiff a shaft... Do you feel you're "fighting the shaft" sometimes?

(BTW, I'm 61 and went a similar route on the long clubs: 9.5* Razr Fit "R" driver, and 4W, 7W and 4H in RBZ).

Focus, connect and follow through!
