When I hit range balls I am very consistant.  I hit a fade and not a slice and I have good control.  However, when I am playing a round with my regular ball (Nike Vapor Black) my fade becomes a slice and I lose control over a lot of shots.  I had switched from a Nike Crush to the Vapor Blacks to help my short game by getting a ball with a little more spin.  The switch seems to hurt my game all around from the tee to the green.

My two questions are:

1) Is a range ball similar to the distance balls like the Crush or the Bridgestone E6 where there is low spin?

2) I am think about switching back to the Nike Crush and dealing with the not having the spin green side.  Is this a good switch or should I keep plugging away with the Vapor Blacks?

Experiment with different balls on the course.  That's really the only way to know for sure.  At the range it's much easier to grove your swing and get better, more consistent results.

Range balls are hard and designed to take punishment. Because they are hard, most spin less that the balls you might play so sidespin may be reduced. Who knows about distance. Depending on how often your range changes out their balls, the ball you hit on the range could be 10 years old and hit more that a demolition derby car. Or it could be brand new. Range balls are so hard that I only use a select few irons when practicing. That way, I will be able to replace a few clubs instead of the entire set.

Don't know about the Nike, but the E6 is designed to minimize sidespin and is a soft ball. It will feel very soft off the club face compared to most range balls. Fits a lot of swing speeds.
