Hello an thanks for anyone willing to help. Im 20 years old and my handicap as gone between a 2-4 this year. In the beging of the year i was swinging over the top and i hated my driver i was hitting it so high and even when i hit it well i would fly it 290 and it would spin about a yard back that was with a clevland highbore xl standard stiff shaft i got a new driver (R11 8 degrees xstiff) for the first 10-15 rounds or so that i played i was hitting it better than i have ever hit a driver and was actually getting 10 yards or so of roll. I have recently hit a slump and am hitting a lot of weak blocks (which i think came from correcting my over the top swing) and even when i hit the rare one solid it is getting no roll again (i have had the driver set to 7-7.5 the whole time ive owned it). Ive tried playing further back in my stance but that seems to make it worse. Its not so bad when i am not into the wind but when i am it is terrible. The same goes for my rescue or hybrid when i hit them solid they go pretty high and dont roll at all. For example with my hybrid i will normally hit it around 225-240 but it will spin back about a foot, rarely i hit one low and it roles for 20-30 yards and goes about 250. What i am basically asking is how to hit my driver 3W and hybrid lower, im not asking for a low ball just something that rolls forward and something that will make my misses low rollers rather than high weak blocks that dont go anywhere?

In addition i have a couple of other questions.

My irons 9-4 when i am in the rough go about 10-15 yards further  and normall roll alittle with the higher irons for example in the fairway or par 3 i hit my 9 iron about 150 and 4iron about 205 when i am in the rough i hit my 9 iron about 165-170 and my 4 iron 220-230 is there a way for me to get the same results from the fairway than in the rough.

Lastly my wedges dont go anywhere in the rough and they arent much better in the fairway for example i only hit my 54 degree 100 yards and cant hit it that far in the rough this makes shots from 100-160 very difficult for me because of the fact that i hit my 9 iron about 165 in the rough and i hit my PW 135 max.

Sorry for such a long post i have just been struggling with my game and would appreciate any and all advice and if you have any questions for me id be more than happy to ask ive been playing for 15+ years and i was a scratch in high school so i know a little bit

Thanks alot

also when i hit my driver off the toe it rolls a ton for me and goes about 290--310 but the problem is i rarely hit it off the toe once every couple rounds but i hit it off the heel multiple times a round which results in a drive that is about 250 and normally not in the fairway

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
