Hello.  I'm new to the forum and I'm glad I can find somewhere to read golf and discuss it as well.

First, I apologize if this has been discussed anywhere and I didn't see it and also for the lengthy post but I am hoping to get some answers and feedback.

Here is my situation:

Every year i host a small (24-32) golf tournament and we just play and dont factor in handicaps.  We have a few guys who can hit 250 yds on the drive and a few who can't hit the front of the fairway.  I dont want to exclude the short and non-straight hitters because they have fun, but it can take upwards of 3 shots to reach the longer hitters.  These extra shots also slow the playing group and subsequently every group after.

Here's what I was thinking and where I could use advice:

I want to implement a quasi-best ball format.  I was thinking that I would have everyone tee off on every hole but on the par 4s and 5s the tee shots would be best ball.  That way the short erratic hitters wouldn't play as many shots and slow everyone down.  It wouldn't penalize the better players because every other shot per hole they play would be their own.  I don't want o play a complete best ball tournament, mainly because I don't get how it would determine a single winner if the possibility exists for everyone to putt from 2 feet from the cup.

Also, I am implementing a double par shot limit.  Thoughts?

I really appreciate your answers and patience while reading my post.  If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask as I am always looking for ways to improve the tournament.

Jonathan
