I was born and raised in Tyler Texas, and now I am a full time chemical engineering (no i'm not a nerd, I just have a nerd major) student at the University of Colorado in Boulder. I started playing golf when i was about 7 years old, but I quit playing completely in high school.

My 21st birthday is here in a few weeks, and my father gave me a set of X20 irons. I opted for the steel shafts based on the advice from a local pro. I'm not sure if that was the best idea at this point because I hit my fathers older irons with the graphite shafts better. Hopefully I can change that.

Currently I am absolutely obsessed with golf. I have played 9 holes and hit on the range every day for the past few weeks. Well... every day but today. Sadly my thumb split open while playing yesterday, and it hurts way to much to hold a club. I am planning on taking lessons this summer and getting a trainer to tailor a workout program for golfing.

I randomly stumbled accross these forums a few days ago, and I am very glad I did. I can't wait to discuss the ins and outs of this great game with all of you in the future

Welcome to the board. I'm a recovering nerd with a nerd major (computer science), equally obsessed. I remember the first night that I able to successfully hit my 5-Iron on the driving range, I stayed long enough to hit probably 150 range balls with just that club.

I am still all over the place, but I am starting to get the hang of my higher irons. I don't think I'll ever hit my 3 and 4 iron with any distance/accuracy though. But, if it does eventually happen, i will also stay on the range with those clubs for hours.

    • Tiger’s walking at the PNC and people say he’s not limping.
    • I haven't heard much of anything about it. Faux leather, sure. Biodegradable leather? No. No idea. You're a bit too new, still, to post links.
    • Okay, I'm genuinely curious about this "biodegradable leather" trend in golf. Are we talking snake oil here? I mean, golf balls, clubs... they all end up in the water eventually. Is this just greenwashing, or is there actually a real environmental benefit? And honestly, does it even perform as well as traditional leather? I don't want to sacrifice distance for the planet, you know? Anyone with real-world experience with these eco-friendly golf goods? Spill the tea!
