As many of you have probably seen me post, I planned on getting a new driver at the end of the month for my birthday. I was leaning towards a 9* Titleist 910D

Well, today I played in a gold tournament which was sponsored by Callaway. There were 144 eligible participants, and I shot a 73 and a 71, on a par 70(first round back tees, second round, were the second closest tees) course, which was good enough for a tie for 9th. Im proud of the way I played, and didnt expect to crack the top 20. This was a flighted tournament, which required a legal HC between 1 and 10. Again, I didnt just meet, but smashed my goals, so I was beyond happy with that, and expected nothing more.

After the 36 holes were done though, we had a large dinner, and Callaway had graciously sent out a ton of things to draw for. Every participant got one ticket to put in the draw, and as it is pulled, you go up and pick a prize. Their were 50 prizes, 50 draws.

First guy drawn went up and took a paid 4 day golf trip for two. Actually it was the same resort that Big break  was at a few years back. Second guy gets called. Gets up, and take and takes Calloway Razor X combo irons (I know this guy and was real happy for him, because he's young, plays hard, and not much money).

Next person called? Me. I had a few choices. I didnt need a putter or a 3 or 5 wood. My Irons are brand new, so I picked the Callaway RAZR Hawk Tour w/ the Aldila RIP 60 Stiff Flex, 9.5*.

Took it to the range before coming home, and I must say I am impressed! For the first dozen shots or so I thought I made a huge mistake. Ball seemed to just fly straight avove the ground, and barely getting to 200 yards. But I started experimenting with ball placement and tee height, and started consistently hitting the 250 yard net. It was coming down at 250, so I dont think I would have got any of them past 260, but after just 2 buckets of balls, I can honestly say my Rapture is out of the bag.

I really like the aldila RIP 60 gram as well. Not saying it compares to a good aftermarket shaft, but as far as stock shafts, its one of the best I have used.

Congrats, sounds like a blast.

I think it would have been funny to have 49 prizes though

Know what is funnier, if Kevin wasn't so dishonest, he'd have a Ping Rapture in the mail.

Well, the wife was buying the driver for me. I haven't decided what I want now, as the clubs in my bag are all new and exactly what I want. If the Nunchuck shaft I ordered works out as well as the reviews say, I may ask her for 2 more of those.

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
