Hello,

I am about to purchase some clubs, and wondering about what others thought about getting fitted, especially how my swing (I'm sure) will be changing, which means hopefully improving over the next 6 months.. How accurate is the reading u get from fitting (lie angle), when u are beginning, to say 6-12 months down the track, and your swing has changed.

I was doing test swings with some kind of adhesive tape on it, measuring where I hit the ball... Anyway, I was hitting all over the place, and am afraid that perhaps the results that were given to me may be out?? Very confused..I barely centered a single ball of the 6 that I hit..

My real concern is that i buy clubs that may have an incorrect lie angle??

Love any thoughts on this.

Cheers

The good thing about lie angle is that you can get it adjusted later on for a reasonable price so you are not stuck with that lie on those clubs forever.  What clubs were you thinking about getting?

For a beginner, a static fitting is best. This makes sure your clubs fit you in basic ways: Proper shaft length and lie angle (angle stabilizes quickly for most golfers), shaft flex matches swing speed, and proper grip thickness.

If at all possible, purchase your first set from a decent golf shop with skilled fitters. You can often find used sets which they can tweak for you in a static fitting. If you try to buy online, you don't get to test hit the clubs first, and may end up with clubs that cost a lot to get tweaked. A golf shop can help find a set that matches your build and strength.

As you said, your swing will change a lot in the first season or two. Once your swing stabilizes, and you feel your early clubs are "holding you back," you can get a more complex fitting and upgrade your set.

Cheers guys for your advice..

So what I am understanding, is for me to get the clubs fitted when I get my swing going consistantly, rather than right away.. Would this be sound thinking here?? Buy my clubs perhaps next week, and then wait till swing is going before fitting?!?!

basically make sure you have a consistent set up and swing so they can get shaft length, toe angle, and shaft flex correct, but there's no need to spend a fortune on an intricate system.

basically i would get shaft stiffness, grip size, and shaft length for my first fitting.
