What does jumping out of a car have to do with a putter?

Can you envision the producers sitting around a table and hi fiving each

other over this idea?

From an advertising perspective, it sounds like it did a pretty good job.    The ad got you to notice it, remember the product, and even spurred you to go onto the internet to comment.     Pretty hard to stimulate that kind of advertising response for just a putter!

Actually the ad turned me off and that is why I brought it up.

So is an ad considered a good ad even if it leaves a bad impression on the viewer?

if you walk into a store and see it are you going to still think "what does jumping out of a car and a putter have to do with eachother"?

...will this perhaps cause you to walk over to the putter and roll it a couple times?

i havent seen the commercial, but maybe the putter is so awesome, its worth jumping out of the car to go get.....they are in a hurry

I depends if it leaves a bad impression of the product or just the ad.      It can seem pretty simple, but one of the hardest things to do in advertising is to establish unaided brand or product recognition and try and turn that into something actionable by the viewer, i.e. get the viewer to actually do something other than just passively watch the ad.     It sounds like you didn't come away with a bad impression of the product (where you hate the STX putter) but just came away with a perception of the ad wondering what a car has to do with putting.    But if you now have a sufficient negative connotation of the ad that if you see an STX putter in the store and your subconscious steers you away, it was clearly a fail!
