Well, I've been playing my Ping I5's for about 2 years now and I would like to move into more of a blade type iron. I'm a consistant 10 handicap golfer and actually in the process of getting that number a bit lower this season. I like the cut-muscle back of the mp60's and the thinner top-line look. I have a question though. What exactly would I be gaining/losing in the switch? Would I gain distance and playability? Would I lose some forgiveness? Those are about the only things I know of, but just wondering if anybody else has made a similar switch from cavity backs to muscle backs and their thoughts.

In The Bag:

Driver: R7 SuperQuad 460 9.5
3 Wood: G5 w/ Graffaloy Pro Launch Stiff
3-PW: MP60's Wedges: Black Pearl 52, 56, 60Putter: White Hot #4Ball: Pro V1

Not just good idea but an EXCELLENT idea. Haha. I am a bit biased because I recently made a similar change like you. I used to play with Taylormade RAC LTII (Cavity with thin topline) and switched to MP60 with Dynamic Gold S300 Sensicore. I chose TT DG S300 over rifle or project X because MP60 already launches the ball high by itself and I myself am a high launcher so needed a shaft to bring the ball flight down a bit and DG worker perfectly. Coming from cast and changing to forged made me realize that I won't be going back to cast irons anymore. Go give it a try. Either you will love it or hate it... Just depends on the individual I guess.

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
