I've been working on my swing to try to eliminate/reduce my over the top move and be less steep into the ball...

I think I'm making progress, but now I'm hittling lot's of Iron shots Fat.

What would be likely cause / cure for this?   I have a theory, but I'd like to hear from the SandTrap experts!

Thanks in advance.

Head tipping back - weight not getting far enough forward.

If all else is equal, a swing to the left (for a righty) will have a low point that tends to be farther forward than a swing to the right.

Why does it work that way? I have always struggled to get clean contact (divot after the ball), when I try to swing more right. What can I do to help that?

Are you staying centered and getting your weight to your left side on the downswing, hands leading through impact.

Do you have some clubs you tend to hit better. The idea here is that your wedges and maybe some short irons you swing can be a bit over the top and work well. As you go up in the bag to your longer stuff you don't want to be over the top and use a shallower angle. In my case I also angle my chest toward the back of the swing from my five iron on up. My wedges I just take it up high and swing. Other tricks are to focus just in front of the ball and think of hitting that spot ahead of your ball.

If you think you might be dropping your shoulder think of making a rounder swing. To test if weight transfer is an issue swing the club and take a step with your rear foot as you finish the swing. You have to transfer your weight to do this and Gary Player actually played this way.

Changing your swing is a difficult thing, especially when you're dealing with the swing plane. You have to understand that while you're working on one part of your swing, other parts may not necessarily fall apart, but you may not be paying as much attention to them. With a flatter swing, its going to be a little longer and the impact position with your hands and arms is gonna feel different. I would check your shaft angle at impact. I wouldn't be suprised if you were just releasing too early.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
