I am a 10 handicap with a swing speed of 110+ mph.  I have DG X100 shafts in my irons which are Mizuno MX-25.  I went to the stronger shafts trying to keep the ball down but if anything I think it has gotten higher.

Is there anyone who has had a similar problem that has gone to a more players iron or even stronger shaft?

Thanks

I would skip the shafts and look at the swing.  More lag, lower ball flight.

Dynamic Golf X100 shafts are fairly heavy (130 grams), have a low launch and medium spin.

According to Ralph Maltby's site, the MX-23 has a fairly low vertical center of gravity (VCOG) which would help get the ball up. MX-23 has a horizontal center of gravity shifted a little toward the heel, so it's not the easiest club to hit. If you're hitting it OK, you might find a clubhead with a little higher VCOG (this would lower ball flight).

Below, Ralph answers a question for an MX-23 player who has too low a ball flight.

Two other things which influence shot height:

  • Your hand and ball position at setup.
  • The type of ball you play. You might try a ball that hypes "penetrating trajectory" and see if that helps.

Also, you might rent some launch-monitor time before you start tinkering with the shafts. See what the data really says before you start making alterations.
