I've been Playing Golf for: 6 years

My current handicap index or average score is: average score 87

My typical ball flight is: straight

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: fade

I have a very flat swing plane but it seems to work pretty well for me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

As you said yourself, you have a very flat swing plane. Definitely work on getting it on plane as to avoid problems with it in the future. I had a very flat plane also, and while it worked well for some time, my swing just left me one day and I couldn't hit a thing. But another small fix I can think of is your posture (spine angle, inclination to the ground, etc), check out this thread: http://thesandtrap.com/t/56069/good-golf-posture .

You've also got a very fast tempo, it looks a little whippy if you know what I mean. If it works for you, keep it. I'm sure you're generating plenty of club head speed, it just may be a little hard to control.

Nice looking swing, IMO.  Hard to tell from this angle what would cause a fade. Do you push fade, hard slice or hit a workable fade?  Have you checked your divot to see if the ball follows the divot path?  What type of shot do you want to hit?  Without seeing your turn into the ball, you would need to examine all the common causes of a fade and try to determine what you may be doing.  With a swing as solid as yours, its probably something small.  I would check your turn - could you be sliding the hips, is your turn down the line or into the swing path?

My other observation of your swing is in the finish.  I've been told the through swing path usually mirrors the back swing path.  Your through swing is high, while your back swing is flat.  This means YOUR swing plane is changing through the swing.  Maybe there is something here causing your fade shots.

I'm no instructor, so take my words with a grain of salt!  LOL  Hope this points you in a helpful direction.

Amac, It's usually just a workable fade nothing too dramatic. It doesn't happen that often, I'd just like to try to iron that out of my game lol. I'll do some research about the through swing part, thanks.

And here's a front view of my swing with the driver.

Again, Joe, great looking swing.  Nice extension.  Great position at the top of back swing.  Your release looks great too.  Question, how did you hit the one in the video?  Also, are you on a down slope?  Your address appears to be leaning back and to the right.  Is that your normal setup?  Note, I'm no swing coach or touring Pro, I just play one on the internet!  That and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

If this swing produced the fade you don't like, then I suggest emailing it to a source where Pro's can disect it with their slow motion software and find where the fade may be produced. Good luck and keep swinging.

Amac, Thanks. I was on just a tiny bit of down slope, but the shot went dead straight. And yeah I think I'm leaning too far back at address. It could've been because of the slope?

Not sure.  Swaying into the ball can cause problems.  Have someone check your position at address when you're on flat ground.  On a side note, your signature says you're a 12 handi, but above your video you typed that 87 is your average score.  What's your actual handi?  And with a swing like that, where are you giving up strokes?  No way a little push fade is causing you to shoot 87.

My handicap is 12 but recently I've been scoring higher. It's because of my short game. I've really neglected it to work on my long game.

    • On my trip at Bandon. I have a couple of best shots come to mind. I had kind of a stupidly good short game shot out of some nasty stuff. I didn't really make any bombs putting.  I could say any drive I hit straight that was hitting directly into the wind, lol. That was nasty. I literally hit a ball like 150 yards right. I am going with my drive on hole 18 at Old MacDonald. 469 yard par 4, down wind. The narrowest fairway on the course, and you have to navigate two sets of bunkers. I stripe one down the middle, catch the slope and have to roll out to about 95 yards to the pin. So yea, that 370-ish drive in the fairway on a 469 par 4 wins the shot of the week.
    • Day 2: mirror work while watching some TV. Checking on some backswing stuff primarily - making sure I’m still steep enough in the backswing.
    • Day 88 (28 Jul 25) - Short session this afternoon after a full day of yard work at the house.  Worked on setup and tempo thru the shot with the 52° wedge in the backyard.  Hit about 20 balls total - just staying focused on the process.
    • Day 10: More putting with the metronome. Short putts feel really slow and long putts feel really fast. Getting more comfortable every day.
    • Day 301 - 2025-07-28 Watched a lot of golf today at Fox Chapel, but then came home and did some mirror work. Re-dedicated. Which is saying something, as I've been playing okay. But relying on my athleticism to just do "okay."
