Hey guys. Don't post very often, but I read almost every day. I've been searching for this, but can't come up with a definitive answer. What is the ideal bounce for a 60 degree wedge? I've got my Mizuno gap and sand wedges and want to get a 60 to match. I can get either a 5 degree or 8 degree bounce. Advantages / disadvantages of either? What do you recommend?

Driver: Superquad 9.5° - XS
3 Wood: Big Bertha II 15° - S
Irons: Mizuno MX-20
Wedges: Mizuno 50-06, 56-11, 60-05
Putter: Hog Mallet

As with anything in golf, it depends.

If you use your 60 degree as your sand wedge then I would suggest a bounce of around 8 degrees. If, like me, you use it for flop shots around the green then lower bounce will help because it will make it easier to open the club and have the leading edge flat. For this I'd recommend around 4 degrees.

Also, what kind of sand/turf do you play on? The firmer the ground/sand, the lower the bounce that you want.

Finally, it also depends on your swing type. If you're like me and don't have a steep swing (don't take a big divot) then lower bounce will work better. Highter bounce might be better with a steep swing.

Sorry to give a complex answer but there are a lot of variables to consider.

5 and 8 both seem like good bounce options for a lob wedge. What kind of turf conditions do you typically play in? The lower the bounce the better the club will perform from tighter lies. I had a Cleveland CG10 "standard" bounce 60 degree but the standard on that thing was 12 degrees and it was way too high. It had to be in decent length rough for me to use it. I went back to a 588, which has 3 degrees and I like that a lot better.

Thanks for the feedback. Considering I can use my 56 for most lies (with a lot of bounce), I think I'm going with the lower 5 degree bounce.

What does the whole "bounce" degree refer to?

Just got a cg10 52,56, and 60 all in standard bounces. What are the bounces on these wedges. I had no idea the 60 was so high. I hope I have a wedge out of the three I can play from tight lies easily.

For whatever reason the bounce angle on the CG10's run high. 52 - 10 deg 56 - 16 deg 60 - 12 deg Here's a chart; http://clevelandgolf.com/index.php?&...a6fd¤t;=2

My Nike Tiger Woods 60º is 10º bounce and it sticks to it even on the hardest of dry fairways. You'd have to BE Tiger Woods to tell the difference in bounce on wedges. I had a Vokey (pre-spin milled) before this wedge and it was 8º. It's all about the grooves on a wedge.

In my humble opinion, spin milled oil can vokey is best wedge on the market. I think you can get it in a 4º bounce too.

HOWEVER, I do understand the importance of matching clubs. Especially wedges, and the Vokey does feel heavier than the Mizuno as well.

So go with 4º. MPR is nice.

Jesus christ, thats really high. I think I may have to grind down all 3 and drop the bounce on all of them.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I eventually went back to my 588's. Good luck.

Well, I don't know about that. I understand what you're saying but I had a CG10 LW with 12 degrees of bounce then switched back to my 588 with 3 degrees and you better believe I can tell the difference.

That's not true at all. Heck, you can tell just by opening a wedge up a bit and seeing where the leading edge rests in relation to the ball. With high-bounce wedges, it won't be right on the ground.

I just ordered a slightly used Mizuno raw haze 60 degree with 5 degree bounce off ebay for $60. I think it's a pretty good deal considering they are about $110 brand new.
