Hello all,

I have not played any golf since I was in middle school but I have started to pick it up again recently and noticed some problems at the range

I have had problems with my irons: slicing the ball towards right and other times, the ball popping high up (only going about a 100 yards but very high) rather than shooting out.

My dad has told me to work on the follow through of my swing after impact and keeping the upper body/head bent over the after impact, because he is telling me I am looking up to see where the ball is going too early.

Are there any tips to help fix this? And, are the tips my dad gave me useful for these problems?

Thank you.

If you can, you should video your swing and post it to the site.  There are some really knowledgable people that can give you some tips.

Your dad is right about the popping, that comes from looking up to early. The same thing can cause you to skull it, and shoot it on the ground with no height at all. The slicing is usually  caused by two things or a combo of both, swinging from outside and not keeping the club face square at impact. What I did to correct my slice was I put a yard stick or an old iron on the ground  just behind the ball (some people use a pool noodle) and pointed it at the target then I made sure to swing inside the line. This will help bring you swing from behind your shoulders down  and not so steep from over the top which can keep the face open.

In my  bag:

Driver, Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 9.5 stiff

3, 5 woods: Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 15,18 degrees Stiff

2 hybrid: Callaway Diable Edge Tour 18 degrees R (out when the 5 wood is in)

3,6 hybrids: Callaway Diablo Edge 21 S and 30 degrees R

4,5 hybrids: Callaway Razr X HL 24 and 27 degrees Stiff

7-AW irons: Callaway Razr HL graphite R shafts

SW 54 Callaway X Series Jaws CC Slate Fujikura Graphite Stiff

Putter: Odessey White Ice 1 Blade Putter.

Ball...looking for any ball that hates water, sand, long grass, and getting lost in the woods.

I can't find any, so forced to use ones that seem to love all the above.

Exactly the problem I'm having, (almost?) all of my thin/skull shots are cause by not focus on the ball at impact.

In fact I'm having this problem with every clubs, with the driver, it caused shanks, tops, fats, thins, all kind of bad shots, with irons, same as yours, with wedges, bladed balls flying accross the green, into the bunker or water, with putter, miss the line in every directions possible.
