I am what I consider a fairly athletic 56 years old. I definitely way over abused my body by playing soccer, hockey, basketball, and tennis. Long story short my inner knees are bone on bone. The good thing is the outer knees still have good cartilage. I am thinking partial knee replacement would be the right thing to do. Any suggestions on what I should do or experiences would be appreciated.

I'm getting my knee scoped tomorrow for some basic meniscus tears......and I am confident someday I will need the replacement.

My uncle was 60 last year and had both knees replaced 6-8 weeks apart if I recall.  I believe it was Dr Berger at Rush Orthopedic in Chicago who did it.  He developed a much less invasive type of total and partial knee replacement that isn't nearly as invasive as traditional methods.  a couple of months after the surgeries my uncle and I were playing golf and hunting birds in 5ft high CRP grasses.  It literally changed his life and he wished he had done it years ago.  Good luck.

I do not think that you, the patient, will make the decision whether partial or full knee replacement. The doc will consider many factors, esp knee history and current images. Also, bear in mind that  partials have a higher problem rate, after a few years, than totals.  I know nothing of Doc Berger but am cautious of 'new' technology with no long term track record.  You may recall that recently many failed hip joints have been recalled due to 'novel' features and good salesmanship.
