I am new to the Sarasota area and I am looking for some suggestions for great local courses.  Anyone here from the area?

I was talking to a local and he told me about The Venice Golf and Country Club, but I don't know any body that is a member.  Based on their website ( http://www.venicegolfandcc.com/ ), it looks like you have to be a member to play there.  Have any of you ever played their? I would love to know more about it.

I have tried a couple of the local public courses, but so far I have found the grounds to be a little burnt. It it just me or am I just going to the wrong courses?

Welcome to the forum!

I have family over there and get out a couple of times a year.  Here're some possibilities for you.....

Waterlefe http://www.waterlefegolfandriverclub.com/sites/courses/custom.asp?id=1022&page;=58898

University Park http://www.universitypark-fl.com/

The Links at Greenfield Plantation http://www.linksatgreenfieldplantation.com/

Waterlefe and University Park are outstanding.  The Links is a little muni-like and though I haven't played it in awhile, I hear that it's struggling with course conditions right now.  Still a good track, and worth keeping an eye on.

In David's bag....
