Hey guys, new here. been reading for a while, havn't posted, but like the site. a little background on me, and my game first. I've been playing for 15 years (i'm 25 now). i now play to a 5.4 index, only getting out once or so a month due to work and family scheduling. I'm 5'10" a little heavier than average, and very strong. I've always had a really short swing, but it never cost me distance. all my power comes from torque and release of my core and hips, also have very strong legs. i hit the driver as far as anyone, with little more than a 3/4 swing. i had been playing blades since my college golf, but finally gave up on them because i just don't have the consistancy to get away with them anymore. started playing with an older set of titleist 704cb's i had laying around. i'm absolutely loving them. i've missed 6 greens in my last 36 holes. here's where the shaft question comes into play. i think that these shafts are regular flex. i say i think, because i must've taken the labels off a long time ago, and i can't tell. they feel lighter in flex compared to s300's and my rifle 5.5's. i'm thinking that i'm hitting these irons so well BECAUSE of the different shafts. i have a pretty fast and very powerful swing. is there a way that i could've been getting hurt playing stiff shafts in my irons all these years?

also, my driver  : titleist 905s 8.5 graffaloy blue: stiff wouldnt change a thing about it, i rarely miss fairways and i crush the ball

hybrid: Cobra baffler 2r s300 steel, wouldnt change that either, love it.

It's hard to say because we don't know if your swing is the same as it was before.

Take a couple of the irons to a golf shop with a good clubsmith. The clubsmith can measure the length of the tip section (between hosel and first shaft increment and estimate what flex it is.

My swing has not changed and the shafts are definitely regulars. I'm just confused as I've always been told how I need stiffer shafts because of the torque I put on the club and my recent success with these regular flexes.

A lot of people assume swing speed dictates shaft flex. The truth is this isn't accurate, the only way to truly know what flex you need is by testing different clubs/shafts until you find the right one. Also, shaft flex ratings are not standardized and one companies regular may be the same as another's stiff. Add in different kick points in the shafts and club head weights.... Yeah, unless someone has watched you hit the ball with a set of clubs they can't tell you if the shaft flex/kick point is right.

    • I like Justin Rose and I wouldn’t mind seeing him win another major, I just didn’t want him to win this one 😃
    • I think Rose might have the most zeroed out putting stroke of anyone out there, although as golfing superpowers go that would be one of the most useless.
    • That pre-swing routine tho.. 🤓
    • He's been a top 100 golfer for almost his entire career, yeah. That's not easy to do, especially as you get into your 40s. And, all without any real "superpowers." He's not incredibly great at any one thing. He's very well rounded.
    • Always been a fan of Rose. He seems like a decent human being first of all. When there's some chatter at the tee he says "Quiet guys, please. Thank you" in a friendly tone. He's always given the impression of being a stand-up guy, supportive of his colleagues and competitors. A friendly face. His performance as a golfer is more about consistency through his entire career than the large number of wins. He's always around, but had the potential to win more. This Masters they made a point out of him having almost twice as many lead/co-lead rounds without a win than the next guy on the list. 11 wins on the PGA Tour, 11 on the European Tour and the single major, but a lot of top ten finishes. Erik's comparison to Adam Scott is on point, as the stats demonstrates in the images below. Starting their careers during the reign of Tiger didn't make things easier, but there are few players with more than 15 wins on the PGAT the last ~30 years. I only counted eight from this list. I'd love to see him win at Augusta. Rory is one of very few players I'd pick over Rose.
