I've been Playing Golf for: 2 years

My current handicap index or average score is:      2012  54 - 17

2013  17 - 14

My typical ball flight is: fade, slicing with driver

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: help me with my swing plane

Good news and bad news. The good news is I know what you're doing because I do it myself. The bad news is I've been trying to change it for years and I'm still not there yet.

Here's the short answer. The hands do three things in the backswing -- they go back, up and in. Yours (and mine) go back and in plenty, but they don't ascend (go up) fast enough. As a result, the lead arm (your right) gets sucked across the chest too much, creating that "flat" look that you've already noted.

At this point I have to ask, what are you doing with that finger? Is it busted and can't wrap around the grip? Not really relevant, but makes me think of this.

Anyway, what happens in play is that the hands then try and find the plane. And because they go so much under on the way back, they tend to compensate and get over on the way down. Based on the exit, your path looks well right here -- which is pulls and cuts all day.

Feels for you. Left hand stays more on top of the grip, wrists cock faster , club head stays outside hands. Rickie Fowler!

LOL.  I have to admit I was in mid sip and just about lost it.

Kidkady - Let me add that you have a great follow through and very athletic swing.

Take this with a grain of salt because I can't quite catch your downswing in slow motion.  But have you tried the headcover drill?  Keep a headcover under your back shoulder to prevent that left elbow from coming out in your downswing.  That is a quick fix oftentimes for myself if I'm having a few questionable shots at the range.  It should fall out right after contact during your follow through of course.

I forgot to mention this but your swing is easy and athletic, I really like it.
