Can too much tension in forearms cause a steep downswing leading to thin, fat, topping and pull hooks?

I would assume that it could cause some of what you are describing. However, I would say that if you are that inconsistent with ball striking where you are hitting the ball thin, topping it, hitting behind the ball and also hitting pulls and duck-hooks, you should work on your swing more and practice. This would mostly indicate an inconsistent swing and most likely an over-the-top path. Post a video, if you can, in the My Swing section of the forum and the members here can take a better look at what is going on. Be sure to get a video from 'down the line' (behind you) and face-on (camera facing your face/shoulders in a square manner).

Yep, i been struggling with an over the top path of late but last night my partner commented that my forearms were bulging at address and told me to waggle and loosen up before my swing. Once I did that I was seeing more consistent golf shots, even got the fade going again.

Weight forward, flat left wrist throughout downswing, impact and follow-through. Keeping your tailing elbow more into your body (right elbow if you're a righty) will also help you keep the club inside longer and promote an in-to-out path.

Try not to think about too much at once. Dumb your practice down, but dumb it down in a constructive way. Try working on one point at a time until you learn what it "feels" like to achieve what you are working on. It will eventually become a second nature and subconscious "take-over". At that point, move on to your next key point that you need to work on.

For starters, I would recommend this thread for you: http://thesandtrap.com/t/61376/5sk-video-thread/72#post_816439

Be mindful of the second video as it relates to your driver and gives you some things to think about in terms of "feel". The videos are by mvmac ( http://thesandtrap.com/u/22889/mvmac ) who is an instructor and moderator in this community.

    • Um... The Browns? ... hmm.... I really don't have any issue at all with the Shedeur Sanders pick in Round 5. If he doesn't work out, fine. It's a fifth round pick on a quarterback, no big deal.  What I'm fascinated by is the Dillon Gabriel pick in round 3. I heard a lot of folks said that Gabriel might not get drafted at all. Seems like they could have waited and still got him if they wanted him.  What I'm already sick of is people saying the Browns have 5 quarterbacks. They don't. Watson won't play in 2025 due to his torn Achilles. Ideally, he won't play in 2026. But they can't cut him. They will actually have to pay more against the cap if they cut him than if they just lock him in somebody's basement and forget about him. Think about this. In the last two seasons The Browns have had 6 games where their QB has thrown for over 300 yards. ... None of them were named Deshaun Watson. Three 300 yard games by geriatric Joe Flacco and 3 by mentally unstable, Jameis Winston. ... Including Winston's almost 500 yards against the Broncos.  Deshaun Watson sticks out loud! I'm hoping he never suits up again. The Browns can just pay him for the next 3 years and then maybe he'll go away. (73 Mil against the cap in both 2025 and 2026. And then 27 Mil against the cap in 2027... sheesh.)  So, The Browns currently have 4 quarterbacks, not 5. I'm not sure any of them are worth a pile of rat droppings. But if not, they got 2 first round picks next year. Then in 2028 Watson's contract will finally come off the books and they can stop paying that waste of a uniform and move forward with whom ever ends up behind center.
